In his first full season, Dezmen Southward was stout playing safety for the Badgers. He recorded 69 stops, eight tackles for loss, and two interceptions. The rising senior performed especially well in Badger's biggest games, racking up 10 tackles in the Big Ten Championship, and seven tackles and a tackles for loss in the Rose Bowl. Southward earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten last year.

Although his production is not overwhelmingly impressive, Southward possesses the physical tools of an NFL safety. He is built at 6'2", 214lbs to play strongside safety and come down in the box and stop the run. Yet, he can still be valuable in pass coverage. If he can build on last season, then Southward will be a top ten safety in the 2014 draft with the chance to sneak into day two.
