Justin Verlander - Detroit Tigers:

OK... This award was really no contest this season for me (and I mean this wasn't even close).

Justin Verlander was one win away from becoming the first 25 game winner since Bob Welch in 1990 (ring a bell A's fans?). But beside that he still led the Major Leagues with 24 wins this season. In between the 24-5 record was an American League leading 2.40 ERA, 250 Strikeouts, .192 Opponent Batting Average, in 251 innings pitched, all AL highs. He also led the league with a .092 WHIP, only 2 others could say it was under 1 (Kershaw, Hamels). Without Verlander the who knows what the Tigers record would have been. He only lost 5 games this season!!! He pitched a no-hitter and flirted with a second no hitter later in the season. He's an easy decision for voters!
