  • Dye is basically the 7th best option for the Cubs, and by FAR the worst contract. The Cubs have an EXTREMELY limited budget, and need any and all funds directed to their much more important needs. Signing Dye also means they have no extra wiggle-room to trade for a player at the deadline, which could become VERY important. All of that is lost because you'd like to sign a 36-year-old, 5-7 million dollar pinch-hitter who's not that good of a hitter anymore and can't play defense...? When there are better defenders left who will get paid MUCH cheaper (Like Johnson, Baldelli, or Byrnes) or better offensive players who're cheaper, younger and also better defensively (Xavier Nady, Gomes). You can also stay in-house and get very good defense with a sub par bat (Fuld, Colvin), because they're getting paid $400,000. Anytime Dye gets a start, he would be costing his team more runs defensively than he adds offensively, so anytime he plays he's hurting his team.

  • You cubs fans must be crazy..... They rocked Milton Bradley for over a yr and that experiment was a failure....Hbod is right, Cubs need his numbers...He might be injury prone, but hes better than an injured Xavier Nady

  • His numbers are mediocre overall, but they're laughable against right-handed pitching, that's what you aren't getting. His 2009 numbers while facing RH-pitching... .236 / .323 OBP / .434 SLG (.757 OPS) As a rule of thumb, a player will face righties 75-80% of the time. So that makes Dye useless 80% of the time, or when a RH pitcher is on the mound. The Cubs cannot pay 7 million dollars for the worst-fielding RF in baseball when he's not that good offensively anymore, it's just insanity. So Dye cannot play defensively, and when he does, he's costing you runs. AND he can't play against ANY righty pitchers because he's awful against them. ChitownSwagger, you would actually LIKE the Cubs to pay 7 million dollars for a bench player who can't step on the field OR hit righties? When there are better, younger, and cheaper options available? You certainly don't live in a world of facts to back up your case...

  • If Dye wanted to get paid 1-2 million? Sure, then it's not a horrible deal. But anything more than that would be an absolute joke, and that's what another team would pay him. The Cubs could be signing a starting second basemen for 5 million (Hudson or Lopez). That is obviously a much more pressing need than a full-time pinch hitter (Who can't hit righties) like Dye...

  • The cubs need dye more than ever right now. Their outfiled depth chart right now looks like soriano in left byrd in center and fukudome in right. Their backups are micahpouir, tyler colvin and sam fuld. WHO ARE THESE GUYS. They may be young with some decent talent but i garuntee none of them will put up dye numbers. EVEN if they start, As well as none of these players will have the leadership qualities of mentoring qualities that dye will bring to this team. Dye is an essential part of the cubs future.

  • It's just a joke. Jonny Gomes: -Much Better than Dye defensively -Much better against left-handed pitching (Which is the most important factor, because he will be in a platoon role in right field) -7 years younger, at 29-years-old -Wants a 1-2 million dollar, 1 year deal. Dye wants 4-6 million per season -Is fully accepting of a bench role, and stresses the importance of helping his team any way possible. Dye still assumes he is starter-quality, which he most certainly isn't. There isn't a single, reasonable Cub fan who would choose Dye over Gomes, for all of those listed reasons. It's completely ignorant of what matters. I'm literally just shocked anyone could disagree with this, because EVERY SINGLE REASON that matters is against Dye. Dye will NOT be signed by the Cubs, for all the important reasons I mentioned.

  • Seriously! Summed up: Dye is 7 years older! Worse offensively against righties AND lefties last year! MUCH worse defensively! The 2nd worst defensive RF in all of baseball. MORE expensive, by 3-5 million! I'm just shocked that anybody who understands baseball would want the much older, worse and more expensive player. It's just frustrating.
