Small School Insider Josh Buchanan Previews The Top-Rated Pro Prospects.
WR JUSTIN BROWN, HAMPTON, 6012, 198, 4.58
Brown had just 28 catches for 483 yards and 2 touchdowns last year playing in the shadows of Jeremy Gilchrist but the transfer from Lackawanna JC is a great talent. With another year in the offense, expect his numbers to increase. Brown’s size/speed combination makes him a solid late-rounder. His stock could rise significantly if the South Carolina native continues to produce at a high level and can drop his 40-time into the low 4.5 or high 4.4-range.
WR EDWARD THOMPSON, IDAHO STATE, 5084, 186, 4.53
Whether its making the big catch, toting the rock on a reverse or electrifying the crowd with a jaw-dropping punt return, Thompson can do it all. He earned First Team All-Big Sky honors as a junior with 83 catches and 907 yards and Second Team accolades in '06 with 27 catches for 311 yards. Thompson’s speed makes him tough to defend in the Big Sky Conference but his postseason performance could make-or-break his draft stock. He currently holds a 7th Rd/PFA grade.
QB RHETT BOMAR, SAM HOUSTON STATE, 6022, 212, 4.74
Bomar earned HM All-Southland honors as a junior, throwing for 2,209 yards and 10 touchdowns. He did not produce eye-popping numbers by any means, primarily due to the vanilla offense Sam Houston State runs, but expect to see big numbers from Bomar this year as he can make all the throws. Bomar does have some red flags according to NFL personnel. A knee injury caused him to miss some action in ’07 and there were some off-field issues at Oklahoma before his dismissal. He enters the season with a 6th-7th round projection.
