The Leading Authority of the NFL Draft

Pro Days 2011
Joseph Hastings | Pro Day Draws NFL Interest
Written by NFL Draft Bible    Sunday, 10 April 2011 09:31    PDF Print E-mail

Often times small school prospects tend to fall through the cracks during the NFL Draft evaluation process due to the lack of exposure during their career and limited platform to perform in front of NFL types.

Washburn (KS) wide receiver Joseph Hastings had the opportunity to work out at the Kansas State pro day on March 15th and turned a few heads. The 5’11 ½, 185-pound wide out ran in the 4.4-range, flashing the speed that enabled him to average nearly 18 yards per catch and accumulating over 1,500 yards.

Following the workout, Hastings has received interest from the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks and conducted a private workout for the San Francisco 49ers earlier this week. Three other teams have since called the coaches at the school to inquire about the Kansas native but we have been unable to confirm who those teams were at this time.

Keep it locked to the NFL Draft Bible for continuous updates on the 2011 NFL Draft, held April 28-30th at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Pro Day: Teryl White Flashes Quicks | NC Central
Written by NFL Draft Bible    Wednesday, 30 March 2011 19:09    PDF Print E-mail

DE/DT Teryl White (6042, 303) had a solid workout at North Carolina Central’s pro day on Wednesday. Players were forced to run in the gym on the slippery basketball court due to bad weather conditions.

White was timed in the 4.92–4.96 range in the forty and bench pressed 225 pounds 23 times. He also registered a 29.5” vertical jump and 9’ broad jump, showcasing his athleticism for a big man.

While he is not expected to get drafted, White is an under the radar priority free agent-type that has a good chance to make an NFL roster. The St. Louis Rams and Houston Texans were on hand to watch the workout.

Pro Day: Jake Locker Offers Risk/Reward | UW
Written by NFL Draft Bible    Wednesday, 30 March 2011 18:36    PDF Print E-mail

Quarterback Jake Locker took stage front and center for 20 NFL teams Wednesday at the University of Washington pro day workout. The two-sport athlete threw about 40 passes, with just two over-thrown deep balls, according to various sources. Surprisingly, Locker did not attempt any snaps from under center, according to FOX Sports.

The entire Seahawks coaching staff was in attendance, as was Chris Palmer the new offensive coordinator for the Titans, whom Locker will workout for on Thursday. That will be followed by a workout for the Broncos on Friday-- Locker conducted a workout for the Vikings earlier this month.

Most NFL Draft prognosticators remain convinced that Locker will still land in the first round but there is a growing sentiment around league circles that his best sport may ultimately be baseball, especially if there is a lengthened lockout and he doesn’t get to participate in the necessary OTA’s and offseason mentoring that is so critical when making that transition during your first year in the pros. The lure of baseball could really present itself, remember everyone has their price and no one is trying to put off getting paid in this economy.

So is Locker worth the investment? Considering that he is projected to come off the board no higher than the third quarterback drafted, the financial risk is not as great, assuming he taken somewhere after the 16th overall pick. Talent-wise, the tools are there, the arm is capable of rifles short and long but Locker is a project. Expectations will dictate his success. As simple as it seems, if he is drafted and expected to start in a year or two, an organization could be asking for trouble. The right situation would be to groom him for two years, minimum. Yes, he needs that much work.

Following the Locker journey on draft day will be one of the fun storylines for television network coverage, probably not so much for Locker but quarterbacks are intriguing prospects that captivate not only the fans but also NFL owners. All it takes is one believer…just check the history books.

Pro Day: Teams Ask Moore To Play CB | UCLA
Written by Joe Everett    Wednesday, 30 March 2011 17:58    PDF Print E-mail

Underclassmen Rahim Moore and Akeem Ayers both took advantage of their pro days at UCLA. Moore chose not to run the 40-yard dash Tuesday and stood on his respectable combine times of 4.53 and 4.62 seconds.  It’s a little concerning that he didn’t attempt to improve the numbers, but the rest of his workout was very good, especially the drills.

While many view Rahim Moore as the top safety heading into April's draft, he is projected as a second-round selection and there are teams that consider Texas cornerback Aaron Williams a better safety prospect. What makes this even more intriguing is the fact that Moore claims other NFL scouts have talked about him playing cornerback in their system, which isn’t out of the question.

Linebacker Akeem Ayers had to redo the 40-yard dash due to his abysmal times in Indianapolis and he ran an unofficial 4.76 and 4.78, an improvement from his combine results. The improvement was crucial, as his stock was falling into the second round for some teams as a result of the poor times.

Ayers also improved his marks in the vertical jump and bench press, prompting him to add, "At the end of the day, turn on the film, watch me play, see what I can do as a football player, which is what I'm going to be doing on Sundays with whichever team drafts me."

While Ayers certainly has the potential to be selected in the first round, it’s easy to agree with him on his football instincts and potential as a playmaker.

Pro Day: 20 Teams Attend Utah | Taylor Shines
Written by Joe Everett    Wednesday, 30 March 2011 09:52    PDF Print E-mail

Center/Guard prospect Zane Taylor might not have been the headliner before today’s pro day at Utah but he certainly is now.

Representatives and scouts of more than 20 NFL teams were in attendance when the interior lineman put up 41 bench reps of 225 pounds, besting his combine mark of 33 reps.  Bill Callahan, offensive line coach for the Jets, was also present to watch Taylor in action. His forty time of 5.41 seconds was also an improvement on his results from Indianapolis and he also turned in a very respectable 26.5 inch vertical leap.

Cornerback Brandon Burton also participated in drills and workouts, as he improved on his 4.50 forty yard dash time and looked smooth in drills.

Unfortunately it wasn’t all roses for the Utes, as defensive back Justin Taplin-Ross injured his left leg during a drill and had to be helped off the field but fortunately the injury is not considered to be serious.
