Buffalo safety Mike Newton had a great showing today to kickoff the pro day schedule, which NFL Scouts, GM and Head Coaches will be attending over the next month leading up to the 2010 NFL Draft. Newton, who has started since his red-shirt freshman year was 5’10, 197 pounds, ran a 4.46 and 4.48 in the forty-yard dash, which would have placed him second amongst all safeties in attendance at the NFL Scouting Combine. He had a 41-inch vertical jump, which would have tied him for second amongst all safeties at the combine. Other drills included a 10-foot broad jump, 6.94 three-cone and 4.17 twenty-yard shuttle. The only thing Newton didn’t excel in was on the 225-pound bench bench, finishing with just nine reps.

There where 12 teams in attendance at the workout, including the Oakland Raiders, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, and the Atlanta Falcons. He was also asked to perform defensive back drills by the Packers, Eagles, Bills, Browns, Jets and Saints.
