12/30/10 - This junior prospect is one of the better athletes available at his position and a very decorated prep prospect. He’s only been a two year starter at USC but his ability to shadow defensive linemen and his upside to play the tackle position in the professional ranks is obvious. He is a little undersized but has the frame to put on more weight and improve his strength, so the sky is the limit for this All Pac-10 first team selection. Smith already projects as one of the better tackles in what is considered to be a weak class.
12/17/10 - ESPN is reporting that Southern California juniors DT Jurrell Casey and OT Tyron Smith will be entering the 2011 draft. Casey was just named USC's MVP for the past season after he posted 67 tackles including 4.5 sacks, while Smith was voted the team's best offensive lineman. While both are quick and athletic, neither the 305-pound Casey who is barely 6-0 feet tall, nor the 6-5, 285-pound Smith are all that big by NFL draft standards. At this time, Casey figures to be a mid-to-late second rounder, while Smith looks like a late third or early 4th round type.
2008: Smith served as the back up left offensive tackle and appeared on special teams as a first-year freshman in 2008. He appeared in 10 games in 2008 (all but Virginia, Oregon State and Notre Dame). He sprained his ankle prior to the Notre Dame game and missed that contest.
