Skinny: A physical specimen, expectations have been set extremely high for Bailey, who is entering his first full year at defensive end. He previously played defensive tackle but switched to end during the final five games of last season—he did not register a sack in that stretch. At nearly 300 pounds, he has been timed in the 4.65-range and possesses a 40” vertical jump! Bailey is destined for round one.
SCOUT'S TAKE
Few defensive line prospects in the 2011 NFL Draft will have the versatility of Miami’s soon-to-be-senior, Allen Bailey. Standing 6’4” and weighing approximately 290 pounds, Bailey has rare foot quickness and first-step explosion that should allow him to play in almost any scheme. The one-man Hurricane is big enough and strong enough to man defensive end in a 3-4 scheme or serve as a 4-3 tackle, while at the same time possessing the foot speed and burst necessary to play 4-3 defensive end. He has seen time at both end and tackle the past two seasons for Randy Shannon’s Miami squad. However, Bailey is raw. He needs to work on his technique and hand usage if he is going to fulfill his vast potential at the next level. But before he moves on to the league where they play for pay, the Georgia native must build on his strong finish to 2009. The first team all-ACC performer has just 14 career starts heading into his senior campaign and didn’t truly begin to come into his own until the second half of last season, when he recorded 7.5 of his 11 tackles for loss.

07/26/10 - Bailey said his nicknames include Big Bailey, Big Dog, The Hulk and The Green Mile. This green-and-orange giant is one that his teammates are glad didn't get away. The soft-spoken Bailey, a senior, told reporters that the NFL College Advisory Committee, made up of various NFL personnel directors, had projected that he would be taken late in the first round or early in the second of this year's NFL Draft. Bailey said he gave it two days' thought -- at most. His decision already was made.``I had made up my mind to come back,'' said Bailey, a 2009 first-team All-ACC defensive lineman who led UM with seven sacks and 11 tackles-for-loss. ``I just felt the bond with this team. I didn't finish last year like I wanted to. With this team, hopefully we can win it all.'' – Miami Herald
04/29/10 - No UM player will carry greater expectations into the 2010 season that defensive end Allen Bailey. Nobody doubts Bailey has the physical gifts to be one of college football’s top players. Bailey is listed as 6-foot-4 and 288 pounds with seemingly not an ounce of fat on his body. Ask any UM player or coach to name the team’s most gifted athlete and Bailey wins hands down. He power cleans 400 pounds, squats 570 pounds and bench presses 405. Last summer, Bailey vertical jumped 39 inches and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds. But now, Bailey has to combine those enormous physical gifts with commensurate production. Yes, Bailey has led the Hurricanes in sacks each of the past two seasons, but his combined two-year total of 12 hardly evokes visions of Jared Allen and Dwight Freeney. – Palm Beach Post
12/20/09 - Junior defensive end Allen Bailey said on Sunday that he is 100 percent certain to return for his senior season, according to the Palm Beach Post. Bailey leads the Hurricanes in sacks (7) and tackles for losses (11) and was a first-team, All-ACC selection at defensive tackle even though he played the last part of the season exclusively at defensive end. “I’m going to stay,” Bailey told reporters following Sunday afternoon’s practice. “That’s all. We have a good shot next year to go all the way. It looks good.”
