SCOUT'S TAKE

Pros: Young is great at getting off the line, around the edge, and disrupting the offensive backfield. He stands in at 6’4, 240 pounds and possesses the ability to play the run and play with strength, despite being undersize for a defensive end.

Cons: The prototypical “tweener”, Young is another undersize defensive end who will need to add weight or have to move play in the 3-4 as an outside linebacker.

Skinny: The decision Willie Young made to return for his senior season at NC State was a good one, both for himself and the Wolfpack. Young has played in all 37 games since hitting the field as a red-shirt freshman in 2006, and the talented pass rusher reminds many of former #1 overall pick and NCSU product, Mario Williams. Young ranks eleventh in school history with 31.5 tackles-for-loss and has started 20 of his last 21 games dating back to 2007. In 2008, he led the team in sacks (6.5), tackles-for-loss (12.5), and quarterback pressures (26).

Projection: Young has good speed but not great speed, but has a very good first step and the ability to use multiple pass rush moves. Heading into his senior season Young has a third-to-fourth round grade.
