11.20.09 - Troup is the heart of the UCF football team and arguably will be the toughest player to replace next season. UCF Coach George O'Leary added that while Troup obviously has a bright NFL future, the defensive tackle never let it get in the way of being a strong football player, strong student and a strong leader. "His work ethic is contagious," O'Leary said. "He's very quiet, but I think he does a lot through his actions." Troup's statistics this season aren't dazzling. He has 30 tackles, five tackles for a loss, two sacks and three passes broken up in 10 games. He slimmed down between his sophomore and junior seasons, now tipping the scales at a lean and mean 314 pounds. He also changed his last name from Johnson to Troup to honor his father, who had gotten back together with his mother after spending years apart. "My new last name has pushed me to work harder," Troup said. "Everything I do is both for my mom and dad so that they can sit back and say, `Look at my son.' When it gets hard out here and I'm tired, I just think about them. I know how hard they worked, and they didn't have these opportunities. I just keep working hard for them." - Orlando Sentinel

10.20.09 - UCF senior defensive tackle Torrell Troup (Conyers, Ga.) has accepted an invitation to play in the 85th East-West Shrine Game which will be held on January 23, 2010 at the Florida Citrus Bowl. Troup will join an elite list of football greats, such as John Elway, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, and 62 NFL Hall of Famers, who have played in the East-West Shrine Game, America`s longest-running college all-star football game. Troup, a double-team devouring defensive tackle at 6-3, 314 pounds, has helped UCF rank in the top 10 nationally in rushing defense and tackles for loss this year while also ranking 11th nationally in sacks. His blocker-eating ability has allowed others to make big plays all season long as four Knights (Cory Hogue, Jarvis Geathers, Bruce Miller and Lawrence Young) all average more than one TFL per game with either seven or 7.5 in six games this year. Along the way, Troup has made 20 tackles himself, 2.5 for a loss with a sack. He also broken up a pass, forced two hurried and recovered a fumble.
