SCOUT'S TAKE
Skinny: Blessed with a ton of natural brute strength, Sergio Render enters his senior season at Virginia Tech with a chance to separate himself from the rest of the offensive linemen in the nation. Render has been a three-year starter for the Hokies and is arguably the most talented lineman to come through their program. His ability to steamroll defenders started in 2006 when he led Virginia Tech with 37 knockdowns. He has improved his stock since arriving in Blacksburg by showing that he can play on either side of the line.
NEWS
Shrine Stock Slider: Sergio Render (OG) - While he has the strength to be a powerful drive blocker. He often gets lazy in pass protection and struggles keeping his balance.
01.23.09 - Rising senior offensive guard Sergio Render had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder. The recovery process will force him to miss all of spring practice, but he is expected to make a complete recovery and will be back at 100 percent for fall practice.
12.31.08 - After low test scores kept him off the football field in 2005, the former gang member broke into the starting lineup in 2006 and has been at home at the right guard position ever since. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery following his freshman season but it obviously had no ill affects as Render has led the team in knockdown blocks the past two seasons and earning Second Team All-ACC honors this season. He has good size (6-3, 308) and is extremely strong (400 pound bench press). Render has submitted his paperwork to the NFL Advisory Board for evaluation.
