Skinny: Kindle is a versatile player who can move up and play defensive end when needed. He can find ways to get at the quarterback, has a good nose for the ball, and can contribute in many ways on defense in both schemes and playmaking. In 2008 he totaled 53 tackles, 14 for loss, 10 sacks, two pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. Consider the 2009 season his coming out party. Kindle is a better blitzing linebacker than Aaron Curry, who was the number four overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Kindle is a very strong pass rusher who can be a great blitzing strong side linebacker or even defensive end on 3rd downs. He has great speed and aggressiveness, and always plays hard. This hybrid talent could be an ideal 3-4 outside linebacker at the next level.
Stock: When Kindle sent his paperwork to the NFL Draft Advisory Board to see what type of draft grade he had, he was told he would be a second- or third-round choice. It was not what he had hoped to hear, so Kindle decided to return to Texas for his senior season.
02.17.10 – Where he goes will depend on who thinks he'll best fit into their system. His quick burst and ability to zero in while closing in for tackles makes him a natural candidate for an outside linebacker spot in a 3-4 scheme. But he spent his senior season playing defensive end. -- Statesman
01.10.10 - Sergio Kindle played his best game of the year in the BCS national title game. The Texas senior defensive end was all over the field at the Rose Bowl and all but unblockable with 2 1/2 sacks. He made himself a lot of money Thursday. – The Stateman
01.08.10 - Kindle isn't yet rated as high as UT's Brian Orakpo was last year , when he went to Washington in the first round, but he could be a ferocious pass rusher, just as Orakpo was with the Redskins this season. “He gets off the ball in a hurry because he's got a quick first step,” said C.O. Brocato, the Tennessee Titans' national supervisor of college scouting. “He's real athletic. He moves really well.” – Houston Chronicle
01.05.10 - Although things could change after the combine and individual workouts, most prognostications indicate that Kindle will be a first-round selection in this spring’s draft. His combination of size and speed should make Kindle a menacing pass rusher at the next level, and Texas’ coaches are confident Kindle will erase any doubts about his character during pre-draft interviews with interested teams. Kindle has recorded just three sacks this season, but it’s not as if his presence isn’t being felt. Kindle, now a defensive end, often faces double teams that result in other players getting to the quarterback or ball carrier. Kindle ranks fourth on the team in tackles (52) and first in quarterback hurries (36). “I feel like that could be just as good as a sack if he incompletes a pass or throws a bad ball and one of our guys comes up with it,” said Kindle, adding that he’s still adjusting to being a defensive end.” – Yahoo
06.02.09 - Texas Longhorns linebacker Sergio Kindle ran his car into an Austin, Texas apartment and left the scene of the accident last week, according to his attorney. Kindle hit his head during the wreck and suffered a concussion when he drove off the street and into a West Campus residence early Wednesday morning. He left the scene because, "He knew he was hurt at the time and that he needed to go home and go to bed," Brian Roark, Kindle's lawyer, told the Austin American-Statesman. According to witnesses, Kindle was awake enough to, along with the car's passengers, push the car away from the building he ran into and abandon it. Kindle was previously suspended for driving-while-intoxicated in 2007.
Medical Examiner: In 2007 he missed two games, one for a right knee injury and the other for a stinger. He also missed the first two games of 2006 due to an ankle injury.
Honor Roll: Kindle nabbed honorable mention All-America honors from Sports Illustrated while also being tabbed first team All-Big 12 by the coaches and second team by the Associated Press in 2008.
High School: Kindle attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Texas where he was a Parade All-America selection and a Parade Player of the Year finalist. He was also named Parade AFL Ironman, the Old Spice National Player of the Year, and first team All-America by USA Today. He earned All-State honors on both offense and defense, the only player in Texas to do so. He totaled an incredible 411 tackles with 55 for loss while rushing for 5,632 yards and 86 touchdowns over his final three seasons.
Personal: Kindle is majoring in youth and community studies.
