Q&A With Lindsey Witten (01.18.10)
SCOUT'S TAKE
Skinny: At first glance, you may be shocked to see Witen listed this high, considering he registered just 19 total tackles, six tackles for loss and five sacks as a junior. He has great bloodlines; his older brother is Donte Whitner who was a first round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2006 NFL draft. An agile pass-rusher, Witen needs to elevate his game into becoming a more effective stopper against the run. He will need to bulk up in order to withstand the punishment of a sixteen game schedule.
Stock: NFL scouts believe that Witen is best suited as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 defensive scheme and he is projected as a mid-round pick entering the season.
NEWS
Shrine Stock Riser: Lindsey Witten (DE) - The undersized Witten had a great motor in this game, as evidenced by how he kept working and eventually flushed Todd Reesing out of the pocket in the second quarter. He also makes a fantastic tackle in space in the third quarter by stopping Dimitri Nance for a loss on a play to the outside.
03.18.09 - Lindsey Witten did not practice with the team on Tuesday; he was mourning the loss of his grandmother and will return to the team on Saturday.
09.03.08 - Defensive end Lindsey Witten hoped to practice Tuesday, with Edsall calling him “questionable-probable.” Wide receiver Brad Kanuch, who missed most of training camp with a leg injury, moved up to practice with the team’s top two units. Tailback Andre Dixon, who torched Temple for 129 yards last season, is slated to return after a right ankle injury sidelined him against Hofstra. Fellow tailback Jordan Todman is “week-to-week.”
VITALS
Bloodlines: Older brother, Donte Whitner, started at strong safety for Ohio State and was picked in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft (eighth overall) by the Buffalo Bills.
