11.05.09 - USF senior linebacker Kion Wilson has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game. Wilson will be the fifth Bull to accept an invitation to the postseason draft showcase. Taurus Johnson (2008), Richard Clebert (2007), Trae Williams (2007) and Bill Gramatica (2000) also participated in previous seasons. Wilson was recently named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after registering an interception, 2.5 tackles for loss and a game-high 12 tackles in USF's 30-19 win over No. 20 West Virginia last Friday.

SCOUT'S TAKE

Skinny: A JUCO transfer, Wilson participated in his first season of division one football last season, recording 66 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception. Expect him to improve upon those numbers during his senior year. The 6’2, 235-pounder has good size, speed and strength to play both the weak and strong outside linebacker spot in the pros. Wilson currently holds a mid-round grade entering the 2009 season.

Personal: South Florida linebacker Kion Wilson's brother, Kellon, was shot and killed on Saturday in Miami Gardens. Wilson, a senior who will be counted on to fill the leadership void left by Tyrone McKenzie, missed Tuesday's opening spring practice to be with his family. Police have charged a man with murder in the shooting. It's been a tough month for South Florida football. The program is still mourning former tight end Will Bleakley, who was lost at sea last week on a fishing boat trip. This is the second time in three months that an older sibling of the senior from Miami has been killed by shooting. This from the report in the St. Pete Times:“Darius Wilson, 29, died Sunday from complications resulting from a gunshot. - 03.11.09
