SCOUT'S TAKE
Skinny: Chancellor is a big athletic safety and can match USC’s Taylor Mays in overall size as a safety. Both are 6’3, and Chancellor is 225 pounds. Last season Chancellor had 52 tackles, two interceptions and five pass break-ups. He is a good overall athlete and his size helps when he comes down and supports the run, he is a little stiff in the hips in pass coverage and is better in zone coverage then man to man, but has the ability to play both. Chancellor will come up and lay the smackdown as well.
Stock: In order to become a complete player at the next level, Chancellor will need to improve upon is his pass coverage skills. He carries a fourth round grade entering his senior campaign.
Quote of Note: "Kam Chancellor, he's an animal! He'll hit anybody. He's not scared of anything. He'll fly across the field and clean your clock, man. I can't wait to see what he's going to do next year. He made noise his sophomore year, but next year he's really going to do something. Mark it down."

NEWS
Shrine Stock: Kam Chancellor (S) - There’s little doubt about his physical tools and penchant for laying the wood. The concern with him is his ability to read what’s in front of him. Chancellor still has the tendency to get fooled by a good quarterback.
East-West Shrine Game: Kam Chancellor (DB - Virginia Tech) had a couple of big hits in practice today. One of them was on Nate Byham (TE - PITT) and the ball almost came loose because of the force of the hit. The other big hit was on Blair White on a crossing route over the middle. He also was good in coverage, almost getting an interception on a sideline pass. His instincts allowed him to knock away the pass as he ran the route better than the receiver (it was again Byham). – Draft Guys (01.20.10)
12.29.08 - Chancellor decided to explore his NFL stock by submitting paperwork to the NFL draft advisory committee. "A lot of other coaches said I'm a good player and I could make a lot of money one day," he said. "So I decided to turn it in." At 6 feet 4 and 224 pounds, Chancellor appears closer to linebacker than defensive back. He said he last ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds. Defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, a former Hokies safety who was selected in the second round of the 1997 draft, claimed Chancellor could leave Blacksburg as the best safety in school history. "Going into the year, I thought he'd have a great year, and it'd be a no-brainer that he'd leave," Gray told the Washington Post, who thinks Chancellor should return but would understand if he left. "He didn't have that type of year. He could come back and have a much better year."
