SCOUT'S TAKE

Skinny: After gaining another year of eligibility, Shipley returns to the Horns with the hopes of making it to the National Championship game…a game that the Longhorns feel they deserved to play in last season. He has his star quarterback Colt McCoy throwing him passes again this season, which likely made his decision to return much easier. Shipley is a sound route runner with great hands. He caught 89 passes for 1,060 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2008. He is also an exceptional punt and kickoff returner, amassing 376 yards and two touchdowns combined. He set two Texas school records; one by catching a touchdown pass in eight consecutive games to start the 2008 season and the other by recording 15 receptions against Oklahoma State. Shipley should have another solid year as both a wideout and return man.

Our View: He is better athlete then people give him credit for and has good size at 6-0 190 pounds and should be around the high 4.4 rang in the 40. He shows good ability to run good, clean routes and catches the football with his hands. He also can be used in the return game and had a touchdown but as a punt returner and kick returner last season. The thing with Shipley is he is a stead receiver that isn’t going to wow you in any particular aspect of his game and is a number two receiver at the NFL level.

NEWS

02.17.10 – Like McCoy, Shipley can improve his stock with a good combine showing. He's got great hands and also can return kicks and punts, but he doesn't have that classic NFL receiver size and he's being lumped into the possession receiver category, though he's probably versatile enough to play slot, flanker or split end. He needs to run a good 40 time in Indy. Right now, he's probably a third- or fourth-rounder. -- Statesman

01.10.10 - Jordan Shipley will be the most under-rated player in the entire NFL draft next April. Some smart general manager should take the Texas wide receiver in the second or third round and get a tough, strong receiver who runs great routes, rarely drops passes, has speed and returns kicks. He’ll play 10 years in the NFL. Texas is really going to miss him. – The Statesman

01.08.10 - “Shipley is the kind of player anybody would want on their team. He's got good enough size to go with great hands,” said C.O. Brocato, the Tennessee Titans' national supervisor of college scouting. “He's smart and runs routes well. He's also a good return guy. Like McCoy, the kid's a winner. He made big plays when they needed him the most.” – Houston Chronicle

VITALS

Medical Examiner: Missed the entire 2004 and 2005 seasons due to injury and was awarded a sixth year of eligibility for a medical red-shirt after the 2008 season.

Honor Roll: In 2008, Shipley was named third team All-American selection. He was also named first team All-Big 12 by several newspapers and second team All-Big 12 by the Associated Press.

High School: Shipley played at both Burnet and Rotan High School in Texas. He was a two-time first team 3A All-State pick, accumulating 264 career receptions for 5,424 yards and 73 touchdowns. His receiving yards and touchdowns rank him second all-time nationally and both are state records—no small feat in the Lone Star State. He earned Parade All-America honors in 2004 and was named Old Spice “Red Zone” Player of the Year by USA Today in 2003. He was also a second team All-State pick as a defensive back and a third-team selection as a kick returner. He got the honor of playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl following his senior season.

Personal: Shipley was born in Temple, Texas and graduated in December of 2008 with a degree in kinesiology. He is currently enrolled in graduate school. He is a member of UT’s Athletics Director’s Honor Roll and was a prep honor student, posting a 3.96 GPA. His uncle, Steven, is the second-leading receiver in TCU history. Shipley enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time.
