Skinny: Skelton is a big, strong armed passer who can rifle it anywhere on the field. Scouts love his size (6’5, 245), arm, and upside but he must work on his accuracy, consistency, and footwork. He tossed 15 touchdowns and threw for over 2,400 yards as a junior but did not live up to the preseason hype by earning postseason awards. Keep tabs on Skelton has he could be another one to fly up draft boards with a productive and consistent senior year. Skelton has the most pro potential of any small school signal caller.

Shrine Stock Slider: John Skelton (QB) - The rifle-armed Fordham Flash only throws it at one speed and he doesn’t throw a great out route. He’ll definitely need to put more touch on his passes and make better use of his feet if he hopes to develop into a quality pro.

East-West Shrine Game: John Skelton (Fordham) is throwing the ball with more confidence but didn’t really come alive until they started running the 2-minute drill.  Earlier in practice he was playing it safe with the football and absolutely refused to challenge the edges of the defense.  There was a play where he rolled out to his right and had Blair White streaking on a 9-route and Andrew Quarless running underneath.  White had tight coverage, but was pulling away from his man—Skelton chose to check down and play it safe.  Had he just thrown it in front of White and let him run under it, the result would have been a big play for a touchdown.  When the team was running the 2-minute drill Skelton seemed really comfortable and had the offense in a good rhythm.  His passes were on time, and he was very decisive with his throws. – Draft Guys (01.20.10)

East-West Shrine Game: John Skelton (Fordham) has the prototypical size for an NFL QB that scouts just love. However, he is a project and showed why early and often today at practice. First the good— the way that he was listening intently to everything the coaching staff was telling him. He seems like a very coachable kid as he would also listen to the playcall in the huddle even when he wasn’t taking the snap. Skelton set up in the pocket nicely, and has great field vision because of his size. Now for the bad—his delivery was too deliberate, and it always seemed like he was aiming the ball instead of just throwing it. Short passes and deep passes were equally off the mark, and usually behind his targets. Skelton had decent velocity when he really stepped into his throws, but the ball wobbled far too often on underneath and shorter routes. – Draft Guys (01.19.10)

East-West Shrine Game: John Skelton (Fordham) had a better day of practice today, and was throwing hot nearly every time the ball left his hand. His throwing motion looked much quicker to me, and I liked the way he would snap his wrist when the ball left his hand. He still struggled to throw on the run today as the squad went 11-on-11 at the end of practice. While running a double screen pass, Skelton turned to his right after faking left and had wide open field in front of him. Instead of running for a first down Skelton instead tried to hit Naaman Roosevelt on a sideline route about 15-yards downfield. The pass wasn’t even in the same zip code, and sailed high and out of bounds. – Draft Guys (01.18.10)
