SCOUT'S TAKE

Skinny: Ford is not a big guy, standing at only 5-9 182 pounds but boy is he quick. Once he gets the ball into his hands he can make people miss and then take it to the end zone. Last season he scored four touchdowns on 55 catches which was second on the team and end up with 710 receiving yards. Because of his size he does a good job and needs to getting in and out of his breaks is a good route runner and is a dangerous when he gets his hands on the ball. He also can help in the return game.

Stock:
Ford is never going to be a number one receiver in the NFL, but can be a very productive guy and help you on special teams, right now he has a fourth round grade.

Our View: Ford doesn’t have great size at only 5-9 182 pounds but he is a fast and explosive receiver. To go along with his blazing straight line speed he has the quickness to go with it and show that when either he has the ball in his hands or when he is running routes. He also averaged 32.8 yards per kickoff return. Because of the lack of his size some teams are only going to be looking at him as a slot receiver and a return man to start out with, but could turn into more like what Steve Smith of Carolina did when he first come into the NFL.

NEWS

01.31.10 - Jacoby Ford (Clemson) – Speed demon that may not have had a huge day, but showed his versatility in taking reverses, wide receiver screens, and had some nice returns as well. Will likely make a very good slot receiver and special teams threat for whatever team selects him. – Atlanta Journal Constitution

Senior Bowl: Jacoby Ford (Clemson) didn’t have quite the standout performance like he did yesterday, but he still looked great catching the football.  He does a good job of looking in passes, and is a wide receiver that can become a trusted target because of his solid hands.  He was high pointing passes once again today, and only body caught a couple of Canfield passes. – Draft Guys (01.26.10)

Senior Bowl: Jacoby Ford (Clemson): He was the most consistent receiver on the north squad today. He was frequently getting open in the one-on-one, five-on-seven, and 11-on-11 drills. The QBs targeted him mostly on shallow routes, but he also managed to get separation and make clean catches on deep outs. What was telling was the fact the north quarterbacks gained confidence in Ford early and increased his targets as the five-on-seven and 11-on-11 drills progressed.  Interestingly, Ford’s impressive play in the team drills came after he cramped up just after a quick practice break while returning a kick off. He got cramps in both calves and literally waddled slowly down the field, stretching his calves for five minutes. However, when it was time to get opposite a corner, he looked perfectly fine until the very end of practice when he cramped up again. Nothing major, but telling that his body was acting up and he still looked like the most reliable receiver on the field for the north squad. – Draft Guys (01.25.10)

12.26.09 - Early in the season, the senior cornerback looked like the force fans and NFL scouts expected him to be. But a high ankle sprain cost him four games and limited his mobility in four others, and the Clemson game will be the first time since early October that Lindley has been close to full speed. Lindley — regarded as one of the best pure cover corners in America — will get a test from the Tigers' best receiver, Jacoby Ford. - Courier-Journal

06.18.09 - Ford strained his hamstring running track, the Associated Press reports.

04.10.09 - Clemson coach Dabo Swinney gave some insight into the starting wide receivers for Clemson this fall. The speedy Jacoby Ford is the leader with Xavier Dye likely securing the #2 receiver spot.

03.14.09 - College Station, TX – Two-sport standout Jacoby Ford earned his first national championship in track & field on Saturday, claiming the 60m dash to lead Clemson on the final day of competition. His crown is Clemson’s second in the event in the last three years, as former teammate Travis Padgett won the NCAA title in 2007. Ford is the ninth individual NCAA indoor champion in men’s track & field history at Clemson. “We’ve had him ready to run a faster time for a while now,” said Lawrence Johnson, Clemson’s head coach. “He could have run faster, but he got excited and jumped up early in the race, so that slowed him a little bit. But he wanted to be the fastest football player on the planet and he’s achieved that. His victory is certainly going to open doors for us as we continue to recruit high-quality guys in the sprints.”

08.07.08 - Ford (ankle) is now participating in full-contact drills, Herald Online reports.

10.29.07 - Ford broke his left ankle in the fourth quarter of Saturday's win over Maryland, The State reports.

10.08.07 - Ford suffered a bruised sternum in the first quarter of Saturday's loss to Virginia Tech, the Charleston Post & Courier reports.
