12.18.09 - Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has announced he will forgo his senior year of football eligibility and enter the NFL draft, in a statement released by the Sooners. "I made the decision around mid-season when I knew that I would have enough credits to graduate," McCoy said in a statement. "Graduation was my main goal and once I knew I had that accomplished, I wanted to look at playing in the NFL. Said OU coach Bob Stoops: "Gerald is a great example of how to be a student-athlete. He came here, took care of his academic responsibilities, invested himself in the lives of others and had a great career on the field. I've never been associated with a young man who was any more impressive than Gerald." McCoy's final game in a Sooner uniform will be in the Sun Bowl versus Stanford on Dec. 31. He has 80 career tackles, including 13.5 sacks and 32 tackles for loss. He also registered two fumbles caused, one fumble recovery, one interception and four pass deflections.

07.29.09 - Gerald McCoy didn’t exactly come out and say that he would enter the NFL Draft after this year. But Oklahoma’s junior defensive tackle sure talked Tuesday during Big 12 Media Days in Dallas like 2009 was going to be his final season. Said McCoy, “I want to graduate. I want my degree. I will graduate in May. Wherever I decide to train at, I’ll have three hours left. I’ll take my capstone online. Then, I’ll be done.” When pressed about whether he was saying 2009 would be his final season at OU, McCoy responded, “Yeah, if I can graduate.” Then with a smirk, “I don’t know, we’ll see.” Physically, he's extremely agile and explosive off the snap. In addition, he provides a pass rushing presence, chases opponents down in back pursuit, and is a stout defender who's hard to knock off his feet. As far as intangibles go, he's a natural leader with an impressive work ethic. Outside of a bit of improvement he can use on his technique, McCoy is the complete package. The 6'4" 299-pound lineman is not only a good player, he's a special one who can be a top-five pick.

01.13.09 - According to an NFL source Oklahoma red-shirt sophomore defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has opted to return to school for one more season rather than entering this year's draft.

12.30.08 - After redshirting in 2006, McCoy obviously made an impression in 2007. He was named Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year as well as being voted Honorable Mention All-Big 12 despite less than earth shattering numbers (seven tackles for loss, two sacks, six quarterback hurries). This season, McCoy has 6.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss and has earned AP All-American and First Team All-Big 12 honors. MCoy would be a first round pick if he came out early but this far, he has not addressed the issue.
