Interview With Danario Alexander At The Senior Bowl (01.27.10)

02.19.10 - Missouri wide receiver Danario Alexander underwent surgery on his left knee Wednesday and will not work out at the NFL scouting combine next week in Indianapolis, or his March 4 pro day at the University of Missouri, the St. Louis Dispatch reports. League sources said Alexander will still attend the combine as well as Mizzou's pro day to meet with teams. Sources familiar with the injury told the Post-Dispatch it was a "new" injury, and unrelated to his previous knee problems. Alexander had a small cartilage "defect" that had to be fixed prior to the combine in order that MRI exams taken there would show that the problem had been fixed. The surgery was performed by Dr. John Uribe in Miami. Alexander is represented by the Houston-based sports agency — Select Sports Group — which plans to distribute a memo on the injury as well as a letter from Uribe stating that Alexander's injury is a common one, and one that he can bounce back from.

Senior Bowl: Danario Alexander(Missouri) showed good hands today, and was catching the ball with arms extended away from his body.  He has good body control and ability to adjust to poorly thrown passes.  He did struggle in the “mini gauntlet” drill they ran, and dropped two passes in a row. – Draft Guys (01.26.10)

Senior Bowl: Danario Alexander (Missouri): Alexander had and up and down practice. He missed some passes during the early drills, drawing some attention from Lions QB coach Scott Linehan. He then looked smooth in the high velocity drills. However, he remained up and down in five-on-seven drills, fighting the ball a couple of times and then rebounding with a couple of good catches. He comes back to the football when the quarterback is in trouble, and he even dove on the ground to scoop in a low pass. (Draft Guys 01.25.10)

12.31.09 - Alexander hasn't soared near the top of most draft boards because he really has only one season to tout. A wrist injury and three knee surgeries limited him significantly his first three years, when he totaled 78 catches, 997 yards and eight touchdowns. This season, finally healthy and removed from the long shadow of ex-MU wideout Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia's first-round draft pick last April, Alexander flourished. He led the nation in receiving yards (1,644) and yards per game (137). His 107 catches ranked No. 2. And he finished with flair, piling up an eye-popping 49 receptions and 820 yards in his last four regular-season games. At 6 feet 4 and 215 pounds, Alexander has excellent size. His listed 40-yard time is 4.58 seconds, but he has top-shelf downfield speed. And he believes he could do a 4.4 40 now. His stock could rise significantly with a good outing Thursday, especially if it's followed by strong showings at the Senior Bowl (Jan. 30 in Mobile, Ala.) and the NFL scouting combine (Feb. 24-March 2 in Indianapolis). – St. Louis Dispatch

11.20.09 - NFL teams could be concerned about Alexander’s injury history. He has remained injury-free this season but missed six games over the previous two seasons with injuries to his wrist and to his knee. He does have raw numbers an NFL team might like. He is listed at 6-feet, 5-inches tall and 215 pounds. He said he’s not sure exactly what his vertical jump is, but that it’s more than 40 inches. He hasn’t run a 40-yard dash in a long time, but said he’s sure he could do it in 4.4 seconds. Alexander’s 1,238 receiving yards this season are more than his career total coming into the season. “I’ve seen some big-time performances this year,” teammate Sean Weatherspoon said. “I played against Jordan Shipley, who’s a good receiver. I’d have to put Danario right up there with the best of them. He’s doing a great job.” - Missourian
