SCOUT'S TAKE

Skinny: Although Brown may have played second-fiddle to DeMarco Murray, he certainly did not play like it in 2008. He led the team in rushing with 1,220 yards and posted a solid 5.6 yards per carry average. He also led the team in rushing touchdowns with 20. Even though he stands just under six feet tall, he runs with power and is extremely agile. He understands where and when to make his cuts, often making him a tough assignment to tackle. Brown will continue to be teamed up with All-Americans Sam Bradford and Jermaine Gresham, along with fellow 1,000-yard rusher DeMarco Murray. This rushing offense—spearheaded by the two-headed backfield monster— should once again be among the most exciting in the nation to watch.

Our View: Brown stands at 5-10 and is around 200 pounds so has good size for a running back, but NFL teams wouldn’t mind seeing him gain some weight and run with some more power. He plays with a great offensive backfield and shares time with DeMarco Murray, who is more explosive. Expect him to be used as a workman-like running back in a dual-back system at the next level. Not as a star running back but as a complimentary runner or 1-B back in your prototypical committee system.

NEWS

Senior Bowl: Chris Brown(Oklahoma) is just a natural running back.  He can process what he’s seeing very quickly and doesn’t waste any steps, energy, or motion when he runs.  Brown instinctively gets low when he runs, and his low center of gravity makes him difficult to tackle.  He has good burst, good speed, and can be an effective receiver out of the backfield because of his elusiveness in open space.  – Draft Guys (01.25.10)

04.30.09 - The College Football Performance Awards proudly announces its 2009 Preseason Trophy Favorites. The list consists of top returning performers for 14 trophies, including Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant, the recipient of the 2008 Wide Receiver Trophy. The compilation is a rough watch list for 2009 - all Division I FBS college football players are eligible for trophies at their respective positions. Overall Performer of the Year Trophy: Colt McCoy - Texas, Sam Bradford - Oklahoma, Tim Tebow - Florida, Terrell Pryor - Ohio State, Case Keenum - Houston, Daryll Clark - Penn State, Jevan Snead - Ole Miss, Kellen Moore - Boise State, Jerry Hughes - TCU, Dez Bryant - Oklahoma State, Max Hall - BYU, Jahvid Best - California, Chris Brown - Oklahoma, Zac Robinson - Oklahoma State.

02.25.09 - Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has no desire to have running back Chris Brown 'get banged around' this spring and will hold him out of most contact.

01.07.09 - Big Game Bob left a lot of points on the football field Thursday night. He’ll be second-guessed in Oklahoma at least until he wins a second national title. Poised to break the tie midway through the second quarter, Oklahoma owned a first-and-goal at the 9. Chris Brown carried four straight times and the Gators stood up the 1,100-yard rusher, twice stuffing him from the 1. Brown finished the game with 110 rushing yards on 22 carries.

01.06.09 - Brown, 5 feet 11 inches and 210 pounds, has started only one game this season, but the Sooners (12-1) will turn to him again Thursday night against Florida (12-1) in the Bowl Championship Series title game. The Gators’ rush defense is ranked 15th in the Football Bowl Subdivision, surrendering 105.3 yards a game.

12.07.08 - Brown rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns on a career-high 27 carries in Oklahoma's dismantling of Missouri in the Big 12 title game. "I'm the biggest Chris Brown fan there is," OU coach Bob Stoops said. "That guy is a great player." Brown usually splits playing time with the person he lives with – starter DeMarco Murray – but suddenly turned into the Sooners' primary back after Murray was injured returning the opening kickoff.
