05.25.09 - The early word out of Denver is that sixth-round quarterback Thomas Brandstater could be taking snaps behind center as early as this season, should the Broncos fall out of playoff contention and/or receive poor play from their two off-season imports, Kyle Orton and Chris Simms. The Broncos view him as their potential long-term answer.
1.17.09 – The West, led by Texas A&M quarterback Stephen McGee and Fresno State's Tom Brandstater, passed for 317 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Bowl-bound wide receiver Mike Thomas (Arizona) had five catches for 73 yards and one touchdown. Rice's Jarett Dillard caught the longest pass of the game, a 35-yarder for a touchdown. - NFL Draft Bible On Location At The East-West Shrine Game
1.17.09 – HOUSTON, Tom Brandstater(QB-Fresno State) looked off at first I(much like he did at Reliant Stadium), overthrowing more than one long pass over the middle. In the second half, he had much better feel and led the team on a touchdown drive. He ended up with a final stat line of 10 for 19 for 159 and a TD. 1/16/09 – Flashed the type of arm strength that teams desire in a pocket passer. Threw some good deep balls when he got his feet set under him. Can still be erratic at times with his accuracy, and I do not think he has the best natural intangibles of the QBs in this game. But he does have enough tools. - NFL Draft Bible On Location At The East-West Shrine Game
1.15.09 – HOUSTON, Tom Brandstater(Fresno State) was once again erratic even though his size and mechanics indicate that there's something there to build around. Draft Guys On Location at The East-West Shrine Game
1.13.09 – HOUSTON, Tom Brandstater(Fresno State) was very sound mechanically and he generated good velocity, but his accuracy and timing looked like they needed work. Draft Guys On Location at The East-West Shrine Game
1.12.09 – HOUSTON, Tom Brandstater(Fresno State) looked the part of an NFL prospect with his size and release. He also carried out good play fakes. He often missed behind the intended receiver and also threw an interception on a tipped ball by Phillip Hunt that ended up in the hands of Kevin Ellison. Scout's Take - 7/1/08
The Bulldog has shown improvement throughout his career and ended his junior campaign on a high note with the Humanitarian Bowl MVP Award in 40-28 victory over Georgia Tech. Not only did he better his efficiency, accuracy and TD-to-INT ratio, Brandstater was much more prolific throwing the ball down the field as his yards per attempt jumped from 5.56 yards per attempt as a sophomore to 7.88 yards as a junior. This displays both his coachabilty and work ethic. However, it is not an uncommon occurrence at the California school—an improvement that for others has rarely translated to the next level. He’s not a scrambler, but Brandstater he has good speed and can move the chains or find the goal line with his legs if need. An impressive athlete for a man of his size, however he could use some more bulk. He will turn 24 during the season. An intriguing prospect more than anything else, Brandstater is projected as a mid-round pick.
