Audio Interview -- Player Spotlight (01.19.10) -- LISTEN
2.16.09 - The big back from Liberty is not the next Brandon Jacobs. He does keep his feet moving after initial contact, and shows good leg drive trying to pick up extra yardage. Banging between the tackles is not a problem for Jennings as he does like to punish defenders. However, his somewhat upright running style limits his power and initial pop. He doesn’t lower his shoulders as good as Jacobs, and when at full speed he takes too many steps to change direction. - Draft Guys Report On Rashad Jennings
1.27.09 – MOBILE, Rashad Jennings (RB-Liberty) - Jennings showed us the same things that stood out all week in practice - running with a good initial burst for a 234 pound back, and good feet through the hole. He fought off William Moore's tackle on one play, showing a more physical side to his game and definitely left open the possibility of moving into the top 100 picks in April. 1.26.09 - Liberty's Rashad Jennings dotted his collegiate football resume with one more victory last Saturday, as the running back led all ground gainers and helped his South team to a 35-18 victory at the Under Armour Senior Bowl, played at Ladd-Pebbles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. After 60 minutes of play, Jennings finished the contest with nine rushing attempts for 41 yards, leading all running backs in net rushing yards. The only running back to carry the ball more times than Jennings was N.C. State's Andre Brown, who rushed for 31 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown, on his way to a Most Outstanding Player honor. Jennings' selection to the Under Armour Senior Bowl is the third in Liberty program history. The running back joins Wayne Haddix, a defensive back who played in the 1987 game, and Eric Green, a tight end who played in the 1990 contest, as Liberty Flames who have participated in the prestigious contest. Jennings will be attempting to become the sixth player in program history to be selected in the NFL Draft and the first since 1990. That year, Liberty had two selections in the NFL Draft, as Eric Green (TE) was taken by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round and Donald Smith (DB) was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 10th round.
1.21.09 – MOBILE, Rashad Jennings(Liberty) definitely has an impressive burst for a 230+ pound back, and he stayed on his feet after absorbing a big hit in 11 on 11s. Jennings has the game to get excellent yards after contact. The former Pitt back also got better at blitz pickup with multiple reps in backs on backers and seemed to be very coachable all week. Look for him to come off the board right after the last of the top underclass backs are taken in April. Draft Guys On Location at The Senior Bowl
1.20.09 – (Senior Bowl Practice): Impressed everyone during the weigh-in; solidly built upper-body and carries 235 pounds very well. Shows an extra burst in the open field. Coachable kid that listens to his position coach and then responds by improving portions of his game. Made a cut and move in the open field that kept the defender off-balance, but for his size he plays as fast as some of the smaller RB's on the roster. Should he run in the 4.4 range at the Combine he could easily move his way into being the highest draft senior RB in this class.
1.20.09 – MOBILE, Rashad Jennings(Liberty) ran through trash very well, nimbly picking up his feet through traffic, and also showed his prowess as a receiver out of the backfield. Jennings also instinctively got lower than oncoming tacklers to win collisions even though he's an upright runner. Jennings stuffed Clay Matthews in backs on backers and showed good pop as a blocker. 1.19.09 – MOBILE, Rashad Jennings(Liberty) showed he was very coachable in the drill that matched up linebackers and running backs in pass coverage. On his first rep, Jennings just ran into his opponent, completely disrupting the timing of the route and short-circuiting the play. The coach told him "You can't just run into him, you have to show him something." On the next rep, Jennings hesitated in front of the LB, gave him a little juke and easily created separation on his route, drawing praise from the same coach that corrected him. 1.17.09 - Exclusive NFL Draft Journal
11.18.08 - Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 230) ran for 56 yards on 14 carries, including a 6-yard score. Jennings set the school and Big South record with 1,391 career rushing yards. He also saw his 100-yard game rushing streak come to an end at 10 games in their 30-10 win over Gardner-Webb.
11.12.08 - No surprise to know that Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 230) eclipsed the 100-yard mark again by rushing for 147 yards on 24 carries to average 6.1 per rush. He also ran for two scores coming from 32 and 36 yards out.
11.3.08 - It is no surprise that despite a loss, Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 230) has another monster game with 32 carries for 188 yards and two touchdowns in their upset defeat at the hands of Presbyterian. He also 5.9 yards per carry and three catches for 15 yards.
10.27.08 - A report would not be complete with a solid game by All-America Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 230) who tallied 127 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries and caught one pass for eight yards. Jennings averaged an impressive 5.5 yards per carry, respectively.
10.21.08 - One big question that scouts and media are starting to ponder is who will hold RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 230) of Liberty under 100 yards rushing when healthy. Despite losing to Lafayette he managed to gash the Lafayette defense for 148 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries, to average 7.4 per rush. His 148 yards included a 58-yard run that showed his ability to break the big play. He also finished with five catches for 25 yards. His performance also made him the third player in Big South history to rush for 3,000 yards in his career.
10.13.08 - Stony Brook found out why Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 230) is one of the top small school draft prospects now believed to be a solid mid round grade after rushing for 101 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries in their shutout victory.
10.7.08 - RB RASHAD JENNINGS was not the only reason for Liberty's impressive offensive output last weekend as QB BROCK SMITH (6016, 258) was very solid throwing for 239 yards and three scores on just 15 of 24 passing with no picks. Smith has been described as a strong armed passer that needs to shed some weight before he would be ready for the NFL game as his likely playing weight at the next level would be 10-15 pounds less than he is right now.
10.7.08 - There have been mixed reviews on Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 230) as some have said he is weak and lacks the burst to go higher than the 6th-7th round while others have been very impressed and gone as far as to say he is a top five senior back in this year's class. Some scouts feel he is not as fast as his 4.4 speed and these criticisms will likely be what make Jennings a future starter in the NFL. He is a hard worker who will impress in the postseason with his workouts and interviews. My personal prediction is that he will land in the 3rd-5th round after teams poke and prod him at the NFL Scouting Combine and find out he has the ability to be a workhorse type back in the league.
10.6.08 - For those who saw Liberty take on Coastal Carolina this past weekend and expect a big showing out of Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 230) there was no letdown as the senior ran for 195 yards and one score on 35 carries, averaging 5.6 per carry as they defeated Coastal Carolina in a 43-38 shootout. Jennings also finished with three catches for 33 yards and two more touchdowns to show his versatility. This performance earned him Big South Offensive Player of the Week plaudits as well.
9.30.08 - Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 230), Walter Payton Award Candidate, ran for 220 yards and three scores on just 29 carries in their upset win over #23 Youngstown State on Saturday. Jennings averaged a whopping 7.6 yards per carry and had a long run of 55 yards. The game showed why many scouts love Jennings style of play and the fact that he can be counted on to carry the bulk of the load. He also caught one pass for six yards in the game. Jennings earned Big South and The Sports Network Offensive Player of the Week honors this standout performance.
9.8.08 - Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS (6010, 235) went down with a broken finger against Glenville State last weekend and could miss several weeks of action. Jennings was considered a mid-late round prospect before the injury. Before the injury Jennings started the season with 100 yards rushing in the opener but this could set back his hopes for a Walter Payton Award and hurt his draft stock if he shows any lingering setbacks once he returns.
9.4.08 - Liberty RB RASHAD JENNINGS ran for 100 yards and 2 TDs on 13 carries in their opening win against North Greenville last weekend. Jennings only played the first half and showed why scouts are so high on him. His size/speed combo (6'1, 230, 4.49) is the most intriguing but improvement in space and burst are things scouts want to see before he can move from the late rounds to the 3rd-4th round range, where I feel he has the ultimate potential to land.
7.1.08 - A former Pittsburgh transfer, Jennings is an ideal big back, standing in at nearly 6’1, 238-pounds with sub-4.4 speed. He has been highly productive since arriving at Liberty, earning First Team All-Big South honors the last two years and rushing for over 1,000 yards in each season. Last year he ran for 1,113 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging 5.8 per carry to earn Big South Offensive Player of the Year honors. Jennings brings a tough downhill running style and has the ability to break the big run. He could potentially rise to the 3rd/4th round range with a solid performance during the postseason.
