As a scrawny 195-pounder coming out of high school, Melland was bypassed by major programs. A big, agile player who does well in space, Melland is solid in pass coverage. His run coverage is average and he lacks the necessary pass rush moves and technique. Known for his propensity for the big-play, the versatile defender returned two of his five interceptions for a touchdown and had a fumble recovery that led to a score. Melland finished his junior season with 82 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, five interceptions, three forced fumbles, one sack, three breakups, and three total touchdowns. He has shown vast improvement in each season at the University of Mary. There is one minor incident that occurred in college, which could prevent some teams from taking a look. Expect Melland to receive priority free agent grades from most scouts but with a stellar senior season, his athletic ability could land him in the draft.
