Scout's Take - 4.7.09
Pros: Massaquoi has good size and solid straight-line speed. He plays with a high football IQ and understands how to find the soft spots in coverages. The former Bulldog has a knack for making the tough catches and shows great ability on jump balls. Despite his lack of pure speed, he was a deep threat in college. He stepped his game up in his senior year and was a team leader.
Cons: Massaquoi runs high, and lacks the explosion needed to consistently get open at the NFL level. He is an average route runner that doesn’t show great ability to break tackles after the catch. While Massaquoi makes tough catches, he drops a lot of the easy ones and doesn’t look extremely comfortable catching passes in stride. In general, consistency was an issue with this Georgia product and considering he’s not going to wow you with his measurables, he needs to address that at the next level.
Scouts Take: After earning freshman All-American honors in his first season Between the Hedges, Massaquoi took a step back in his sophomore and junior campaigns before finishing his college career with a strong senior season. Following a promising start at the Senior Bowl, an injury cost him the opportunity to prove something to scouts. He doesn’t have the great athletic ability or elusiveness NFL teams look for, but he does play smart and hard. The North Carolina native understands the game and is known as a hard worker. He should be able to improve his route running, but teams will be more concerned with his hands at the next level. He was a productive player that was overshadowed by the true freshman star, A.J. Green, last year. Look for Massaquoi to land somewhere in the mid-rounds. He could develop into a solid possession receiver in the NFL with a ceiling of a number two receiver at the next level.

3.20.09 - RB Knowshon Moreno probably had to be a little disappointed as he was only able to run in the low 4.6 range for the 40. Moreno, though, reportedly looked much quicker an instinctive than that time would indicate and also caught the ball well. Moreno’s agents finalized plans for a private workout with the Chargers on March 30. The star of the work out may have been CB Asher Allen who reportedly ran under 4.35 seconds for the 40. WR Mo Massaquoi also improved his 40 time, running a 4.50 today compared with 4.60 at the combine.
Massaquoi's improvement will help his draft status, but he dropped countless passes in college and isn't NFL-tough to me. I don't care how fast he runs; I need a guy who will take the big hit and hold onto the ball. That ain't Massaquoi. He doesn't catch the ball with his hands oftentimes, and when he does he shows signs of lacking focus by not looking the pigskin in his hands before making a move upfield. He looks like a possession guy to me, who'll probably have trouble gaining separation on a consistent basis. - All Access Daily Dose: Pro Day Impact & Analysis
1.23.09 - Mohamed Massaquoi looked very smooth coming in and out of his routes – he’s a natural athlete. He made a nice catch on Alphonso Smith. We saw the good and the bad from this Georgia product on one play: Massaquoi beat Derek Pegues with crisp move at the line of scrimmage…but dropped the ball, which has always been the knock on him. A hamstring injury cut his week short, which was too bad…he looked like he had a chance to help himself this week. - NFL Draft Bible On Location At The Senior Bowl
1.21.09 – Mohamed Massaquoi left with an ankle injury and was replaced by Greg Carr(Florida State). Carr was strong and physical in his routes and high pointed the ball well. He competed for the ball in the air, which is important because like North WR Ramses Barden, he doesn't seem to have the speed to separate consistently. - Draft Guys On Location at the Senior Bowl
1.20.09 – Mohamed Massaquoi once again looked like the most impressive athlete of the South wide receivers. He demonstrated terrific body control (getting two feet down close to the sideline) and natural hands (with a drop or two) and also flashed a second gear to create separation on a deep route. - Draft Guys On Location at the Senior Bowl
1.19.09 – Mohamed Massaquoi did everything well except catch the ball. He had multiple drops, but he also hands caught a few later in the practice. He did separate very easily and showed better than advertised speed (eating up the cushion in the blink of an eye) after weighing in at an impressive 6'1 3/8 and 210 pounds. Mo looked smooth in his routes and also got his head around to locate the ball in flight very well. - Draft Guys On Location at the Senior Bowl
