Pros- Wallace is blazing fast. He has great athletic ability and is extremely agile in the open field. He runs very smoothly and accelerates quickly--a big time vertical threat and an extremely dangerous return man. He improved his route running his final year at Ole Miss. Shows good hands on balls in traffic. His stock is rising after he ran the fastest 40 at the Combine. (4.33)
Cons- Wallace lacks height and bulk at just 6’0, 190. He makes tough catches but loses concentration on the short routes that should be automatic. Still looks raw running routes and blocking. He will probably never be anything more than a number two or three receiver.
Scouts Take- Wallace is a big play guy that should provide a deep threat option and an upgrade to the return game. He should be able to see time as a rookie as a slot and third down receiver. He was considered a 5th to 6th round prospect at the end of the college season, but now is considered a 3rd and could possibly sneak into the 2nd round for a team that wants to add a blazer to the offense. His play is similar to that of the Eagles 2008 2nd round pick, DeSean Jackson.
1.27.09 – Wallace put a punctuation mark on a week that showed he belonged with this level of competition after a late call-up to the Senior Bowl. He flashed outstanding deep speed on his long TD catch that he slowed down to haul in. He flew past DeAngelo Smith, who is not exactly sluggish, although he wasn't the fastest corner at the game either. Wallace also used that great speed to track down Kory Sheets on his long kick return. - Draft Guys On Location at the Senior Bowl
1.23.09 - Mike Wallace had a good week, showing the ability to run crisp routes and blowing by most of the defensive backs he was matched up against. He did have a bad drop, but I think he made an impression on scouts this week. He could be one of those guys who turn out to be a better pro than he was a collegian. Wallace has nice tools. - The NFL Draft Bible On Location At The Senior Bowl
1.20.09 – Mike Wallace is making the most of getting into the Senior Bowl. He was the best blocking wide receiver downfield on the South squad, he extended and twisted to pluck a ball out of the air on one of the plays of the practice, and he also made a one handed catch. He's clearly very athletic, getting separation with quicks, speed, and crisp routes. - Draft Guys On Location at the Senior Bowl
1.19.09 – Mike Wallace seemed like a worthy late add to the game, generally keeping the defensive back trying cover him on his heels, and showing excellent ability to get to the low pass. - Draft Guys On Location at the Senior Bowl
