06.01.09 - The Giants are loaded at defensive end, but don’t rule out undrafted rookie Maurice Evans making the team. He was a nice surprise at the rookie minicamps. Evans, who had 12½ sacks as a sophomore at Penn State, probably should have returned to school, but the Giants might have a diamond in the rough if they can get his head on straight and find a spot for him.
02.04.09 - Penn State junior DE Maurice Evans who gave up his final year of eligibility to enter the 2009 draft, must each serve a year's probation after being charged last fall with possessing a small amount of marijuana. Evans along with current Penn State DT Abe Koroma, were entered into a program for first-time offenders earlier this week and will have the charges expunged from their records if they complete the program and stay out of trouble over the next year. Evans had been considered a potential first rounder before the season, but had just three sacks in 2008 after posting a team-high 12.5 in 2007.
12.29.08 - Evans had a somewhat quiet freshman season in 2006 but came up big in 2007 for Penn State. He notched 21.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks and forced five fumbles to earn All-Big Ten honors. Unfortunately for Evans, 2008 most likely hasn't been anywhere near what he likely thought it would be. While he does have three sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss, an off-the-field issue has cost him dearly in terms of playing time. Evans and a teammate were suspended for three games after being charged with possession of marijuana. With the decreased production and the recent suspension that will undoubtedly hurt his stock, Evans will probably stay for his senior season at Penn State.
