Pros- Murphy has good size and speed. He is very fast off the line and doesn’t lose speed when making cuts during routes. He is very elusive and tough to bring down in the open field. He moves smoothly and changes direction on a dime.

Cons- He will struggle against physical corners and doesn’t have the strength to consistently beat the press coverage he will face at the next level. He takes big hits and coughs up the ball too often. He didn’t look extremely comfortable catching passes over the middle in college.

Scouts Take-
Murphy was not extremely productive at Florida and was overshadowed by other playmakers on the team. He did finish with a strong year and has room to improve as a player. He offers some flexibility as a slot or outside receiver and has the elusiveness to help in the return game. It may take time for Murphy to learn to catch away from his body on the run, but he could turn out to be a very good receiver in the NFL.  He projects as a late 2nd to 3rd round pick.

A legitimate game-breaking threat, Murphy may be the fastest receiver in the 2009 NFL Draft. Primarily a special teams player in his first two seasons wearing the orange & blue, Murphy finally became part of the Gators aerial attack as a junior. Not overly productive, with just 39 career receptions heading into ‘08, Murphy put up solid numbers in ’07 with 37 receptions, 548 yards and 5 touchdowns despite being Tim Tebow’s fourth option for most of the season. He has good size but could probably get a little heavier and stronger before strapping up for Sundays. With Andre “Bubba” Caldwell (Bengals) moving on to the NFL and Percy Harvin dealing with injury issues, many expect Murphy to have a breakout season in Gainesville. The Florida native has been tabbed as the number one preseason wide out by many NFL teams, but his value is based purely on potential.
