2.16.09 - With power and speed to spare, McCoy expects to be a big star on Sundays. He gets to top speed in a hurry and can blow by - or through - unsuspecting defenders. A natural hands catcher McCoy makes for a great checkdown receiver, and uses his pad level plus his forward lean to maximize the yardage gained after contact. Ball security may be an issue with LeSean and sometimes when he hits the open field he has so many moves that he runs out of control, which leads to getting tackled instead of making an even bigger play. - Draft Guys Report On LeSean McCoy

1.22.09 - LeSean McCoy has signed with agent Drew Rosenhaus, who said he has established the goal of helping the former Pitt star become the first running back selected in April’s NFL Draft. "Obviously, it's a very competitive position with the juniors that came out," Rosenhaus said, mentioning Connecticut's Donald Brown, Iowa's Shonn Greene, Georgia's Knowshon Moreno and Ohio State's Chris Wells. "We're going to work very hard on our end. It's our goal to help LeSean reach his fullest potential draft-wise." The Miami-based Rosenhaus also said that, despite the number of underclass running backs who declared for the draft, NFL teams have proven that they are placing a premium on stockpiling talented runners. "The Steelers proved this: even with a Pro Bowl running back in Willie Parker, the team still invested a first-round pick in Rashard Mendenhall," Rosenhaus said. "It's a trend in the NFL right now. Teams with good running backs are going to take a runner high in the draft. "LeSean has everything you're looking for: speed, size, elusiveness, durability, vision, footwork. He's a natural runner. He's an every-down back. And he's only 20, so he has quite a bit of upside." – Pittsburgh Tribune Review

1.14.09 - Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy is passing up his final two seasons of eligibility to enter the NFL draft. McCoy broke several of Tony Dorsett's school records and is leaving after two seasons with the Panthers. McCoy led Pitt to a 9-4 record and Sun Bowl appearance this season. He told coach Dave Wannstedt of his decision in a phone call Wednesday.

1.9.09 - Pittsburgh running back LeSean McCoy is expected to declare for the NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. McCoy said last month that he planned to stay in school for his junior season, but a family member said that McCoy spoke to several former Pittsburgh players, including Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who advised him to turn pro, according to the newspaper. An NFL draft advisory committee told Panthers coach Dave Wannstedt that McCoy would be a low first- to early second-round pick.

12.29.08 - LeSean McCoy had a freshman season that garnered him several awards including be named Freshman All-American and Big East Rookie of the Year as well as being a first team All-Big East selection. He rushed for 1,328 yards with 14 touchdowns and hauled in 33 passes for 244 yards and one score. He hasn't slowed any in 2008 rushing for 1,403 yards with 21 touchdowns and adding 299 yards on 31 receptions. McCoy has stated that he plans on returning to Pitt next year but a first round grade could very well change his mind.

Quote of Note: "He has a little bit of what Ricky Williams does. He has a little bit of Tony Dorsett, who I played with," said Wannstedt, a former Pitt offensive tackle. "He has a little bit of Emmitt Smith, and Rashaan Salaam, another Heisman Trophy winner." - Pittsburgh Head Coach Dave Wannstedt on LeSean McCoy
