Exclusive NFL Draft Journal - 1.12.09
1.15.09 – Jason Williams has been the best linebacker on the West squad all week and made a terrific play to read a run play and knife through a gap drawing kudos from the coaching staff. - Draft Guys On Location at the East-West Shrine Game
1.13.09 - Certainly passes the eye-test with flying colors with a well-defined upper-body. Is a little tight in the hips when dropping back into coverage, but he flies to the ball and shows an extra burst of closing speed in the open field. - Draft Guys On Location at the East-West Shrine Game
1.12.09 - Jason Williams was always around the ball and seemed to play faster than any LB on either squad today. - Draft Guys On Location at the East-West Shrine Game
Scout's Take - 7.1.08
One of the more intriguing small school players in the 2009 draft class, Williams began his career at running back before switching to safety and eventually to linebacker. He started the past two years at outside linebacker, earning AFCA All-America honors by tallying 107 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, and eight sacks during his junior campaign. His main strengths include speed/acceleration, the ability to shed blocks, and his instincts to stop the run. Williams will need to work on making better use of his hands when engaged in contact and prove that he can dominate at a higher level of competition. His athletic ability will make him a highly coveted prospect and possibly earn him a mid-round grade with an improved senior season.
