3.30.09 - TE Jared Cook (6-4 5/8, 249) ran a 4.56 short shuttle and a 7.25 three-cone drill. Cook has drawn a lot of interest and has a pair of upcoming workouts scheduled. - South Carolina Pro Day

3.23.09 - University of South Carolina tight end Jared Cook conducted 22 formal interviews at the NFL Scouting Combine, according to Ed Thompson of Scout.com. A converted wide receiver, the 6′5″, 246-pounder ran a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine and registered a 41-inch vertical leap and a 10′3″ broad jump. Each of those workout numbers ranked first at his position.

While ol' ball coach Steve Spurrier may be a little off in calling him the next Calvin Johnson, Cook has all the physical tools to become a star at his position. Don't be fooled by his paltry 37 receptions for 573 yards in 2008. His quarterbacks at SC (Stephen Garcia and Chris Smelley) were atrocious. And I wouldn't be all too worried about his ineffectiveness as a blocker since Cook has the frame to add on weight without losing any quickness. With his big hands, long arms and ability to accelerate past coverage, this 6'6" tight end will be weapon at the next level.

He's shooting up the boards due to the fact that he absolutely murdered the Combine with those numbers above. His ability to block can be taught at the next level, and won't dissuade anyone from drafting him. Looking at the board, I could see Philly taking him in the first round at #28 or Cleveland snagging him with their second round pick, number 36 overall. Tight ends with his speed and athleticism are few and far between. He's going to be a player. - All Access Daily Dose: Jared Cook = Stock Up

2.23.09 - Everyone knew Cook was one of the most athletic tight ends in this class, but no one had him pegged as THE most athletic player at the position. He ran the fastest 40 (4.50), and leapt higher (41”) and longer (10’3”) than anyone else at his position. He also had the biggest wingspan (35 3/4”). Cook’s performance probably got him into the first day of the draft. Draft Guys
