Looking for the fastest player at the 2009 NFL Scouting Combine? Look no further than Jackie Bates. If invited, there is a very good chance that he burns across the finish line faster than anyone else--his blazing times have been clocked faster than any participant in the 2008 NFL Scouting Combine. Bates previously ran in the 4.22/4.27-range and displays that great speed on the field. His biggest weakness is dropping prospective interceptions but Banks is physical, possesses strong knowledge of the cover-two defense and doesn’t give up the big play. Bates does have some red flags on his resume--he was suspended from the University of Oregon and suffered a broken bone in his lower left leg during 2006. Reports have indicated that he has made the necessary adjustments in his lifestyle to overcome his personal obstacles and has completely healed from his injury. Bates will most likely receive a late-round grade heading into the 2008 season but has the talent to be a mid-round pick if he proves those red flags are no longer an issue.
