2.16.09 - Ian Johnson is a slashing RB with good vision and a good initial burst. He is very shifty and will see cutback lanes as they present themselves. Ian can be very effective catching screen passes, where he can get out into open space. Injuries plagued Johnson during his college career, and he doesn’t have ideal NFL size. - Draft Guys

1.15.05 - Former Boise State tailback Ian Johnson received an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine this month, he said Wednesday. The combine is Feb. 18-24 in Indianapolis. Scouts particularly will be watching how Johnson runs, because his speed often has been questioned by talent evaluators. "I'm super excited about that because I get to show them something they didn't know," Johnson said.

1.15.09 – HOUSTON, Ian Johnson(Boise State) is making the most of his skillset - using his vision and slashing style to find holes and hit them hard, but his narrow hipped build doesnt generate much drive and he doesnt have top end speed, so it's hard to see how he fits in at the next level. 1.12.09 –
HOUSTON, Ian Johnson(Boise State) showed some subtle lateral agility and good initial burst getting through traffic on a few runs, but otherwise did not stand out. Draft Guys On Location at The East-West Shrine Game

1.13.09 –
HOUSTON, Ian Johnson(Boise State) again showed good lateral agility and slashed through the hole, but doesn't seem to have the power to run through arm tackles. Draft Guys On Location at The East-West Shrine Game

12.23.08 - On a draw play, Ian Johnson showed enough speed to get around the corner and into the end zone for his WAC-record 58th career rushing touchdown. What’s WAC football you say? It’s not like he’s playing in the SEC where the likes of Hershel Walker and Bo Jackson once roamed, you say? Well before you judge, understand that Johnson passed some guy named Marshall Faulk and some other back, LaDainian Tomlinson, is now third on the list (TCU now plays in the Mountain West Conference). Tomlinson, a TCU alum and Texas native with the cowboy boots to prove it, was in the house to see his Frogs prevail as the Poinsettia Bowl was played Qualcomm Stadium, home of Tomlinson’s Chargers. Marshall Faulk, who hails from New Orleans, played his college football at nearby San Diego St. University.- College Football Insiders Poinsettia Bowl Notes

Scout's Take - 8.1.09

This Bronco made a name for himself in the Orange Bowl by scoring the memorable game-winning two point conversion against the Oklahoma Sooners, which he followed up with a unique encore—getting on one knee and proposing to his then girlfriend. The productive Johnson leads all active running backs in yards and touchdowns heading into the 2008 season. Johnson is able overcome his average speed and lack of ideal size by using his instincts and patience when hitting the hole. Limited in his yards after contact, he will need to answer questions regarding his durability—Johnson saw his carries decrease by 70 from his sophomore to junior year as injuries (kidney) caused him to miss two full games. His career 5.7 yards per carry and 45 scores entering ‘08 are impressive but much of his production has come against inferior opponents and behind a strong offensive line. Johnson has made major strides as a pass catcher, which will play a big role in how much he sees the field as a pro, especially when factoring in his ability to make defenders miss when he gets outside the hash marks.
