2.16.09 - Gartrell Johnson immediately stands out because of his size and physique. The gifted big man is an aggressive runner that loves to pound defenders play after play. He is very patient and does a good job of allowing his blocks to develop in front of him. Using a good pad level, leg drive, and low center of gravity Johnson knows how to find his way to the endzone. Gartrell is a team player, and will play RB, FB, or special teams. He does not have elite speed, and can let plays swallow him up when the lane is not there. - Draft Guys
1.17.09 – Gartrell Johnson ran hard and showed the underrated burst we saw all week in practice. He also had a touchdown saving tackle on Morgan Trent's interception. - Draft Guys On Location at the East-West Shrine Game
1.15.09 – Gartrell Johnson has a good enough burst to hang in the NFL. His no nonsense hard charging style is apparent on every carry and he looks like he hold up under NFL punishment. He'll never be anointed the back of the future, but with the NFL RB injury frequency, we'll see him tote the rock in the big league at some point. - Draft Guys On Location at the East-West Shrine Game
1.13.09 – Gartrell Johnson continued to run with a wide base and terrific body lean, running through contact, except on one notable occasion (more on that on the defensive side). Johnson's initial burst was once again terrific, and he must be rising up draft boards as we speak. - Draft Guys On Location at the East-West Shrine Game
1.12.09 – Gartrell Johnson instantly stood out with his HUGE calves and his running style showed the power his thick lower body can generate. Johnson had many long runs and easily absorbed a big hit from Kevin Ellison, staying on his feet and finishing the run. The book on Johnson is that he lacks a great initial burst, but he seemed to be through the hole and at the second level in the blink of an eye on most of his runs. He got open deep as a receiver more than once, but couldn't finish the play. - Draft Guys On Location at the East-West Shrine Game
