1.17.09 – HOUSTON, Brian Hoyer(QB-Michigan State) made a few nice improvisational throws to Deon Butler and showed the good athleticism he displayed in practice. Draft Guys On Location at The East-West Shrine Game
1.15.09 – (East-West Shrine Game Practice): Had an inconsistent morning practice. Had some trouble finding the right receiver in team drills and did not always do a great job of progressing through his reads. Throws a catchable ball but tends to explain himself or what he thinks he saw on a play rather than listening to what the coaches are saying; that will annoy or turn off NFL QB coaches quickly.
1.15.09 – HOUSTON, Brian Hoyer(Michigan State) was the East QB with the most zip on his passes for the third straight day. His tight spiral drew praise from the East coaches. He also threw a nice deep ball, coming down in a very catchable cylinder. Hoyer was very inconsistent and seemed to lose his edge in 11 on 11, the best simulation of game conditions in the practices. 1.13.09 - (East-West Shrine Practice): Throws a very catchable ball, has a bad habit of patting the ball prior to his release, but has a good release and shows good leadership skills in the huddle.
1.13.09 – HOUSTON, Brian Hoyer(Michigan State) showed off a good pump fake on multiple occasions and was also effective outside of the pocket. Hoyer also put nice touch on his post routes and decisively checked down when nothing was there in 7 on 7s. For the second straight day, Hoyer was the best QB of the East trio. 1.12.09 – HOUSTON, Brian Hoyer(Michigan State) also had a good cadence and had the best zip on his fastball of any East QB. He doesn't seem to have a huge deep arm ball, but he displayed great arm strength on short and intermediate passes. Hoyer failed to anticipate his receiver's routes or was consistently inaccurate, because his passes were often behind his target. Draft Guys On Location at The East-West Shrine Game
7.1.08 - In his first year as full-time starter, Hoyer garnered All-Big Ten Honorable Mention after backing up Drew Stanton for two seasons. He lacks ideal size and bulk, but is a very good athlete, although he does not look to run very often. The Ohio product needs to get stronger and could still work on his accuracy. Hoyer is not overly impressive in any particular category and will likely be no better than a backup in the league where they play for pay.
