School Bio

1.28.09 – Southerland had a good day as a receiver, adjusting well to poorly thrown balls. He caught most everything thrown his way, but he wasn't always a hands catcher. - Draft Guys On Location at the Texas vs. The Nation Game

1.27.09 – Southerland ran like a prototype fullback with low pads and leg drive. He also got around the corner to be the lead blocker in the convoy on a few wide running plays. - Draft Guys On Location at the Texas vs. The Nation Game

Scout's Tale - 7.15.08

One of the top blocking fullbacks in the '09 draft class, Southerland will miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a fracture of the navicular bone in his left foot during the off-season. He had surgery after the season but tests revealed that the stress fracture was in a different location and he needed additional surgery. The Georgia native also had shoulder surgery in the spring of 2006. Sutherland has been a regular in the Bulldogs starting lineup since his freshman season and is a critical component in their power rushing attack, opening holes for Thomas Brown and then freshman sensation Knowshon Moreno. He’s the type of fullback runners can follow. Southerland is not productive with the football in his hands--he lacks elusiveness--but he does excel in short-yardage situations. As a sophomore, he led the team with 10 touchdowns. His hands are solid, but he is not a big factor in the passing game.
