2.16.09 - Branden Ore has everything that teams want in a pro back - on the field that is. He has the patience to allow the play to develop, the initial burst to get to the hole, and the vision to anticipate where the defense is coming from. Ore has a rare instinct to run the football, and looks very smooth with the ball in his hands. However, there are off field concerns surrounding him because he was dismissed from Virginia Tech before spring drills in 2008. Ore will not be a high draft pick, but if his head is on straight he could perform like a first rounder.
1.28.09 – Ore had a terrific one handed catch, and he's clearly a natural hands catcher, but he had to be corrected by Nation head coach Howard Schnellenberger because he had too much stutter in his routes. Schnellenberger even used Canadian RB Jamall Lee, who is learning the ropes of American football this week, as an example for Ore to copy. - Draft Guys On Location at the Texas vs. The Nation Game
1.27.09 – Ore looked to be in great shape, and he was light on his feet with great juice in his cuts. Ore made would-be tacklers miss more than once and he also showed soft hands as a receiver. Ore instinctively gets skinny between the tackles and he knows how to dip his shoulder away from outstretched arms. He has good vision for the cutback lanes and seems to be rehabilitating his draft stock after getting dismissed from Virginia Tech this past Spring. - Draft Guys On Location at the Texas vs. The Nation Game
Scout's Take - 8.1.08
Ore was dismissed from Virginia Tech after his junior campaign following an altercation with head coach Frank Beamer. Ore nearly declared early for the 2008 NFL Draft before deciding to head to West Liberty St. for his senior season. Prior to his removal from the Tech program, he rushed for 992 yards in 2007 and 1,137 yards in 2006 and gained First Team All-ACC honors. Ore has good vision, is tough and uses his quickness to make defenders miss. Thee Virginia native required off-season shoulder surgery following his freshman season but has been fairly durable since, with 508 carries over the last two seasons. Ore has good hands, but is not much of a blocker. Joining his cousin Darren Banks at West Liberty should attract several scouts to the school, as Ore carries a 3rd-5th round grade.
