2.16.09 - College football history is littered with backs that start out their career with solid production (Lynell Hamilton, Justin Vincent), and then fade away into oblivion. Arian Foster certainly has followed that pattern to this point. However, unlike the 2 backs mentioned, Foster wants to be a factor at the next level. He has good lower body strength, running with good pad level and forward lean. He will deal out punishment by lowering his shoulder and loves to fight for positive yardage. With his hard charging style injuries are certainly a concern. He also takes too much time to get a full head of steam, and when changing direction he loses a lot of momentum. Draft Guys
1.24.09 - Foster’s favorite running back playing in the NFL is Brian Westbrook of the Philadelphia Eagles, who he considers the most versatile back in the league. He loves watching Westbrook run and has tried to model his game after the Pro Bowler, and he has been training in Arizona in preparation for this week, the NFL Combine next month in Indianapolis and April’s draft. In 2007, Foster exhibited a lot of the qualities he admires in Westbrook by complimenting his running game with solid receiving skills. He caught 39 passes for 340 yards and two touchdowns and totaled 83 receptions for 742 yards and two touchdowns over four seasons. But in 2008, Foster only managed one 100-yard rushing game in the second game of the season against UAB and was held under 75 yards eight times. The 26-14 loss at Georgia in the sixth game was the low point as he mustered just 3 yards on 3 carries. – Go Vols Extra
1.21.09 – MOBILE, Arian Foster(Tennessee) had a terrific day, that sadly ended with a hamstring injury. Foster has been surprising with his initial burst and crisp cuts all week. He looked good catching the ball today, and he was the strongest South back in blitz pickup during backs on backers. Draft Guys On Location at The Senior Bowl
1.20.09 – MOBILE, Arian Foster(Tennessee) ran surprisingly well. He looked like a plodder to us at Tennessee, but he showed a good initial burst and got to the second and third level as a receiver and a runner, although he did drop an easy swing pass earlier in the practice. Foster ran through arm tackles, set up his blocks, and changed direction as well as any South RB. He handled Rey Maualuga in backs on backers. Draft Guys On Location at The Senior Bowl
1.19.09 – MOBILE, Arian Foster(Tennessee) flashed surprising ability to get outside on one 11 on 11 run, and froze Brian Cushing in his tracks during the backers on back passing drill. He also made a nice diving catch later during that drill. Draft Guys On Location at The Senior Bowl
7.1.08 - A physical runner, Foster does most of his damage between the tackles and is a very capable goal line/short yardage runner. Experienced, productive, and durable, the San Diego native possesses excellent size and has added pass catching to his list of abilities, proving to be a talented all-around back and a solid pass blocker. Foster lacks ideal speed for a feature back, which limits his potential at the next level. He has slimmed down for his final campaign in Knoxville with hopes of remedying his weakness. Foster will not wow you but is close to being a finished product, which could sneak him into day one of the draft. Despite not garnering many accolades as a Volunteer, he needs just 683 yards as a senior to break the all-time Tennessee rushing mark. Foster underwent knee surgery in January of 2008.
