2.23.09 - Mack had the bad luck of missing the workout portion of the combine with an injury, so while centers like Wood, Unger, and Antoine Caldwell were impressing, he will have to wait for his pro day to make a fresh impression on scouts minds. Draft Guys

Alex Mack Awarded Draddy Trophy By National Football Foundation - 12.10.08
1.23.09 - Alex Mack is tougher than Max Unger, but he had troubles with Ziggy Hood’s spin moves. He was also overpowered by B.J. Raji (in 11-on-11), putting in doubt whether he will be able to handle premier defensive tackles one-on-one. Mack has a nasty streak and does a good job of maintaining leverage. - NFL Draft Bible On Location At The Senior Bowl
12.8.08 - Graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in legal studies... Four-time Academic All-Pac-10 selection.... One of only three players to be named a unanimous 2007 First Team All-Pac-10 selection, earning the Morris Trophy as the conference's top offensive lineman... Named First Team All-America by The Sporting News in 2007 and a projected first-round NFL Draft pick... Member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. - National Football Foundation
Scout's Take - 7.20.08
Pros: Primarily a center, Mack has experience playing all three offensive line positions. Headman Jeff Tedford has praised his leadership skills and his ability to provide depth and fill in anywhere on the line. He has excellent size and strength for a center, with impressive athleticism and mobility. Mack possesses good footwork, speed and quickness making him a weapon as a blocker. He also understands how to use leverage. Playing in Tedford’s Pro-Style offense, Mack has experience as a traditional snapper as well as in the shotgun.
Cons: Mack needs to do a better job bending his knees, which would allow for a wider base and better leverage—something he will need to do in order to handle bull-rushes from NFL-caliber defensive tackles. He needs to show more agility against premier pass rushing tackles as well. As a run blocker, Mack needs to do a better job when reaching the second level of the defense.
Overall: The Golden Bear has anchored one of the top offensive lines in all of college football the last two seasons. They allowed the third fewest sacks in the country during that span and opened holes for draft picks Marshawn Lynch and Justin Forsett. He led the team in pancake blocks (25.5) and knockdowns (57.5) on his way to First Team All-Pac 10 honors as a sophomore, which he repeated as a junior (one of three unanimous choices). Mack is the odds-on favorite for the Rimington Award in 2008 and could be on his way to being the first center drafted in April of 2009.
