75. TASHARD CHOICE (RB)
School: Georgia TechYear: Senior Hometown: Atlanta, GA Date of Birth: 11/20/84 Height: 5110 Weight: 207 40 T: 4.60 Projection: 1st Round
Class: 2008 Big Board
Pros: A patient runner who will wait for his blockers and let the holes open up, Choice has a great feel for the game, with extraordinary vision. He reads defenses well and is able to decide where the opening is before he reaches the line of scrimmage. He’s a natural runner who anticipates well and appears to have an extra sense when toting the pigskin. While he did not make many receptions as a collegian, he uses his hands well and is solid after the catch.
Cons: Choice does not possess above average size or speed, he lacks ideal acceleration and is not very agile or mobile. He needs to define his upper body, as he is not a powerful runner. The Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech also needs to work on his pass blocking. Choice does not always protect the ball well, so he may have issues with fumbling. Durability is also an issue, as he suffered through numerous injuries throughout his college career.
Overall: While some injury questions will linger, Choice bounced back from his knee injury to turn in three straight 100-yard games versus Duke, North Carolina and Georgia for a total of 446 yards, proving he is healthy. Choice set a school record with 17 100-yard rushing games in his career, as he earned All-ACC Second Team honors as a junior and First Team All-ACC as a senior.
Our View: His toughness and ability to chew up yards in the second half helped him gain the respect of NFL scouts the last couple of seasons. He needs to learn to run lower so he can avoid the big hits. Choice will never be a star, but has the potential to be more than just a backup--ideally, part of a two-headed backfield.
