Pros: An eye-opening performance at the Scouting Combine has made Pollack one of the risers leading up to the draft. He posted the top numbers across the board for all centers, including the fastest ten-yard split, twenty-yard split and twenty-yard shuttle. His forty-time was also second best amongst all interior offensive lineman (Donald Thomas). The Tempe native is an impressive athlete, capable of doing all of the things that NFL clubs now look for in their center, including pulling. Pollack possesses outstanding quickness and burst. In addition, he is very mobile and served as the Sun Devil’s general on offense, being named a team captain. Known as one of the hardest working players in all of college football, Pollack has proven to be a durable performer during his time wearing the Maroon and Gold, starting in 34 of 47 games, including 31 consecutive starts to close out his career.

Cons: The only missing piece to Pollack developing into a premier center at the next level is his lack of power--he needs to learn how to translate his strength into force, to help gain better leverage against his opponents. He could encounter trouble against dominant nose tackles in the NFL. Pollack must learn to stay low when he enters his stance, otherwise he will be the one getting overpowered at the point of attack. Until he proves he can handle the bull rush, opponents will test him early on.

Overall: After spending his first season on the scout team, Pollack saw time in eight games as freshman, including four starts to end the year. That number increased to six as Pollack played in all 12 games as a sophomore, and the offense excelled while he was snapping the ball. The center made All-Pac 10 Second Team as a junior—his first season as a full-time starter—in addition to receiving accolades as the Sun Devils top offensive lineman. As a senior, he worked his way onto to the All-Pac 10 First Team and received the school’s Iron Man Award. Pollack was also recognized as a Hard Hat Player for his work in the off-season strength and conditioning program in each of his first three seasons.

Our View: He may not develop into a perennial All-Pro, but Pollack brings his lunch pail to work every day and should be the first center off the board come April. He is an excellent talent who will likely flourish in a zone-blocking scheme, which would best utilize his skills.
