69. JALEN PARMALE (RB)
School: ToledoYear: Senior Hometown: Midland,MI Date of Birth: 12/30/85 Height: 5114 Weight: 224 Bench Press: 19 Vertical Jump: 42" 40 T: 4.47 Projection: Third Round
Class: 2008 Big Board
Pros: For a back coming from the MAC, Parmele put up some impressive numbers at the NFL Scouting Combine, including prototypical size, a better than expected 40-time, and impressive all-around athleticism. He anticipates holes very well and has the patience to let his blockers do their jobs. Parmele has some elusiveness, but doesn’t like to dance--once he sees a hole, the Michigan man does not hesitate to attack it. He usually gets the most out of every carry. He’s not very proven or experienced in the passing game, but he has good hands and is very willing to put his hat down to block for his quarterback.
Cons: Parmele is not a home run hitter and he lacks ideal quickness, particularly when he needs to chance directions—he’s more of one-cut runner. He is also not a great open field runner, but the biggest concern is lack of ball security. If he does not cut down on his fumbles, Parmele will struggle to get playing time.
Overall: In his first two seasons as a Rocket, Parmele saw limited action as a backup, but took advantage of his first opportunity seeing extended playing time and earning First Team All-MAC honors, which he repeated as a senior.
Our View: Coming from a non-BCS school in a draft class that is deep in running backs, it is easy to see how Parmele could fall through the cracks. He will not be a feature back in the NFL, but expect the former Toledo Rocket to be a solid pro, fitting in nicely as part of one-two punch. He can help on special teams as well.
