Pros: This former wide receiver may have the best combination of athleticism and hands of any tight end in the draft; he is very quick with top end speed. Davis has good vision, locating soft spots in the zone and often providing his quarterback with a safety valve underneath coverage. A well-coached player, Davis has a good understanding of how to use his leverage and knows the importance of technique when it comes to blocking. He is strong, well conditioned and durable. His improvement as both a receiver and blocker over the past four years is a product of his work ethic.

Cons: This man of Troy will need to do a better job of sustaining and finishing off blocks. While he has improved as a blocker, he has been inconsistent at times. Davis will likely never be considered a great blocker. Part of the reason is he lacks prototypical size and bulk. He still needs some work on his route running, especially down the field to help take better advantage of his speed. Davis is not very shifty and needs to do a better job of catching those not-so-perfect passes.

Overall: After a slow start to his career, Davis took a more prominent role as a junior. He enjoyed a breakout season as a senior, emerging as the Trojans leading receiver. He catches the football like a receiver and can line up on the outside in three and four wide receiver formations if necessary. He appears flashy with his athleticism, but deep down he is a gritty, hard-nosed football player. Davis isn’t considered to be Honolulu material, but if he continues to work on his game, he should be a very solid starter in the NFL.

Our View: Davis made tremendous strides as a senior and there is a lot to like about him in terms of his intangibles and athletic potential. Most impressive was how Davis was able to nearly double his catches and at the same time increase his yards per catch by nearly 50 percent during his final season. If he were to slip into the later portion of the second round, he would be a true steal.
