95. ANDRE WOODSON (QB)
School: KentuckyYear: Senior Hometown: Radcliff, Kentucky Date of Birth: 4/25/84 Height: 6040 Weight: 229 Bench Press: n/a Vertical Jump: n/a 40 T: 4.80 Projection: Third Round
Class: 2008 Big Board
Pros: Woodson appears to have the total package: size, a strong arm and an accurate touch. Not many can put more zip on the football than this Wildcat. He makes great decisions and while he is not a scrambler, Woodson understands how to move around in the pocket enough to give receivers more time to get free. Simply said, he passes the eye test – he looks like a NFL quarterback. He has dropped about twenty pounds since his arrival to Lexington and the loss of weight seems to have helped his maneuverability in the pocket. The UK quarterback has been very durable during his career and stands strong in the pocket- not afraid to take a hit when delivering a pass. He displays a good understanding of the position and his head is always in the game.
Cons: He can lose composure when the pocket closes in on him and he tends to hold the ball too long, which could be costly at the next level. While the loss of weight has helped improve on cutting down his sack total, Woodson is not going to be a difference maker with his feet. In addition, when he scrambles looking to throw, Woodson simply does not see the field as well, which is when many of his mistakes happen. He has a long throwing motion and considered a change before the coaching staff convinced him to stick with what he has been successful with, although at the UK Pro Day, Woodson did appear to have made changes.
Factoid: Did you know Andre Trent Dilfer's (271) all-time record for consecutive pass attempts without an interception with 325.
X-Factor: Does his mercurial rise indicate future success at the next level? Some see him as “robotic”, which would indicate no, that won’t work in the NFL. His arm strength is good enough that a slight improvement in his decision-making might allow him to get by at the college level, even in the SEC, not in the NFL. However, it is rather impressive that Woodson upped his touchdown total by 25 while only throwing one more interceptions from his sophomore to junior season. It could be things finally clicked for the Kentucky quarterback and he may have a better understanding than some give him credit for.
Overall: A big quarterback with a rocket arm, good accuracy and enough mobility to get by—Woodson made huge strides as a junior throwing 31 touchdowns to seven interceptions after posting a ratio of 6:6 as a sophomore. Maybe more than any other prospect, Woodson has yo-yoed in-and-out of the first round. Playing in the shadow of Brohm in high school, as well as the college level, Woodson took a major step forward as a senior. He deserves credit for one of the best two-year spans in quite some time in Lexington, as the ‘Cats exceeded expectations under his command. Woodson has played against top-notch competition throughout his career in the SEC—flourishing against some of the toughest defenses.
Murphy’s View: A hot commodity entering his final season, Woodson has cut down on turnovers and shows rare athleticism for a 6-4, 225 pounder. He can make all the necessary throws and shows impressive zip on his deep throws. Woodson led the Wildcats to a bowl game in two consecutive years and a big win over then-ranked No. 1 LSU last season. He has learned how to settle his feet, step up and work from the pocket, but can still make plays on the move.
Mogollon’s View: Woodson has the prototypical size that NFL teams covet and the strides he made from a borderline starter as a sophomore to a legitimate pro prospect was rather impressive. H seems to have a better feel for the game than given credit for, understanding when to zip the ball and when to throw with touch, as well as when to take a shot down the field. He may need some tweaking in his mechanics to fulfill his potential in the pro ranks, which is why of the big four major college quarterbacks in this draft (along with Brian Brohm, Chad Henne and Matt Ryan), Woodson is probably the least “NFL ready” but may bring the most upside. It’s hard to tell if he is Ben Roethlisberger or Tony Banks.
No Major Injuries Known
Highlights of Acomplishments:

Major: Kinesiology
Quote of Note: “He is a very good quarterback and he always stays very poised. He has a good arm and he is accurate so he makes some throws so he does a good job with that. He has a lot of experience, he is a fourth year starter, so he’s seen everything and I think he believes in himself and his team and that’s why they have gotten so far.” --Florida Quarterback Tim Tebow On Andre Woodson Only Subscribers Click below to sign up |
