Pros: A pure speedster, Jones has an explosive second gear and the ability to power up to full speed in a few steps. He excels in the open field, where he can make people miss using his quickness and athleticism. He runs low to the ground, which allows him to maintain his balance. Jones is already a proven receiver coming out of the backfield and will be a nightmare for linebackers to match-up with. Adding to his versatility might be the strongest part of his game—his return ability, which will allow him to make an impact from day one.

Cons: With Darren McFadden at Arkansas, Jones has never been asked to carry the load—his 154 carries as a sophomore were a career high. He is not a powerful runner—he lacks size, bulk, and strength—and will not run over many defenders. If he does not get bigger and stronger it could become a problem for Jones in pass protection. He also needs to be more patient as a runner and do a better job of seeing the entire field rather than simply relying on his speed.

Overall: Not many supporting actors have been able to shine as much as Jones throughout his career as a Razorback. His big play potential is too much to overlook. The junior tailback became more efficient each year with his yards per carry, jumping more than a yard each season as a collegian, not to mention the tremendous impact he had as returner. To many, Jones was not a No. 2, but a 1B.

Our View: He will not be a feature back, but in today’s NFL that is no big deal, which is why Jones is worthy of a first round pick. It is not about quantity with Jones, but quality—he will be an impact player at the next level. Jones did not help himself at the Scouting Combine, but is still a playmaker in waiting.
