Pros: The Haitian Sensation is the next top-caliber tackle to hail from Boston College, as they have earned a reputation for producing polished, quality lineman. A four-year starter, Cherilus has proven to be durable and tough. The team co-captain made 37 starts at right tackle before switching to the left side as a senior and taking over duties from James Marten (Cowboys) to protect Matt Ryan’s blindside. His biggest attribute is his run-blocking ability but Cherilus has flashed the necessary skills to be a more than adequate pass blocker. Considered to be a high-motor player, Cherilus gives a full effort on every play while showing smart instincts. He rarely misses assignments and is mobile enough to compete with the more athletic defenders.

Cons: The fact that Cherilus had difficulty handling quick pass rushers suggests that he may be better suited at his original right tackle position. Standing at nearly 6’7, he will certainly need to build upon his muscle mass and pack on some pounds to handle the grueling grind of a sixteen game season. Cherilus had a right knee injury early in his career, which required arthroscopic surgery during the off-season but has never missed a game due to injury during his collegiate career.

Overall: The bevy of offensive line prospects at Boston College overshadowed Cherilus during his first three seasons and he struggled a bit making the adjustment to left tackle this past season. However, the Second Team All-ACC selection has vast potential and could soar into the first round of the draft—a sure-fire day one selection out of Chestnut Hill. Cherilus reportedly scored a 25 on his Wonderlic Test.

Our View: While he has experience playing on both sides, in an ideal situation a team would look to slot Cherilus in on the right side, to avoid him matching up against the premiere speed rushers at the next level. His combination of size and strength provide Cherilus with a solid foundation to build upon. He doesn’t have the same pizzazz as some of the tackles ranked ahead of him on the big board but it would be no surprise, if he went on to enjoy greater success than many of those listed ahead of him. There is no doubt Cherilus will serve as a great asset to any team looking to upgrade their offensive line.
