59. BRIAN BROHM (QB)
School: Louisville Year: Senior Hometown: Louisville, Kentucky Date of Birth: 09/23/85 Height: 6'3 Weight: 224 Bench Press: n/a Vertical Jump: n/a 40 T: 4.74 Projection: Top Ten
Class: 2008 Big Board
Pros: Brohm has excellent size, sound fundamentals and the ability to make all the throws, making him a coach’s dream. A leader on and off the field, Brohm has proven to be calm and collective during his career as a Cardinal. He has a strong arm, does not need much space to get the ball into his target and shows good touch on his passes. Not a scrambler, but Brohm can move enough to get away from pressure and he is very comfortable throwing on the run. He has an excellent grasp of the game, capable of dissecting a defense before the snap and he progresses nicely if his primary target is not open.
Cons: Brohm seems to lose his mechanics from time to time as he will have the ball sail on him or completely miss his intended target. For an accurate passer, he always seems to throw in an errant pass or two in each game. Durability is a concern as Brohm has been plagued by injuries in each of his last two seasons as a starter. He tore his ACL in '05 but was able to start the season opener his junior year. While he has been injured several times, Brohm has shown to be a quick healer.
Factoid: Brian was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 2004 MLB Draft as an outfielder.
X-Factor: The hometwon hero has put up prolific numbers during his time in Louisville, Kentucky. How much of that is attributable to his talent as a passer and how much is due to the passer friendly systems he has played within, under both Bobby Petrino and his head coach this past season Steve Kragthorpe? Moreover, because of a lack of stellar defense, more often than not, during his senior campaign, the Cardinals were involved in shutouts, as well as comeback attempts, which factored into Brohm’s final numbers as a collegian.
Overall: He came out of high school with a lot of hype, especially locally, where many viewed him as a savior for the program. While the Cardinals had a disappointing 2007 season, for the most part Brohm has handled the pressures well, turning in a successful career. Often accused of being a product of the system, Brohm needs to show he can stay healthy. A potential franchise quarterback, who would probably benefit from at least one season to learn as a backup. It will be interesting to see how draft day turns out for Brohm, if he goes past the Ravens at No. 8, he could plummet a la Brady Quinn last season.
Murphy’s View: Brohm came into the year as the top-rated senior quarterback and had a chance to play his was into being the No. 1 overall choice in this year's NFL Draft. However, some teams aren't sold on him because he has not always been durable and other quarterbacks who played in the same offensive scheme have struggled in the pros. Brohm has shown the necessary smarts, work ethic and physical tools to make believers out of all critics.
Mogollon’s View: While Brohm is not the first Louisville Cardinal to stuff the stat sheet from the quarterback position -- he is head and shoulders above his predecessors in terms of his potential at the next level. The physical tools are all there and NFL clubs should not hold the Cardinals’ lack of success this past season against him. The bigger question mark comes in his ability to adjust to an NFL offense. There is something about him that makes you wonder if he has been over-coached if that makes sense -- would like to see him be more natural. Brohm is no sure thing, but he is physically gifted and has shown enough during his four years in Louisville to warrant a first round selection.

Highlights of Accomplishments:
Personal: Is the fourth Brohm to play football at the University of Louisville. Dad, Oscar and brothers, Greg and Jeff each played football for the Cardinals. Jeff also played in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers. Brian wears contacts.
Major: Finance
High School: While passing for 20,579 yards and 119 touchdowns during his prep career, Brohm led the Trinity Shamrocks to the 4-A state title in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Brian was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated on November 18, 2002, while he was a junior in high school and was named 2003 Kentucky Mr. Football, as well as the Gatorade Player of the Year for 2003. Brohm also played basketball and baseball for the Shamrocks, helping the basketball team to its first Regional title and the baseball team to a state runner-up finish.
Quote of Note: "Patience, he's very patient, if you're going to take away the vertical throw, he's willing to dump it off. Great vision sees everything from sideline to sideline. He doesn't get rattled, you never see him get too emotional. He just looks like a professional quarterback playing a college game. He goes through his progression and checks it off. That quality of being very patient is the main thing."
