The countdown continues and our number thirty-five prospect in college football is...

Quarterback Jerrod Johnson, Texas A&M (Senior):

The Skinny: The Texas A&M quarterback oozes NFL potential. Just ask the Texas Longhorns, they’ll tell you so. Johnson shredded the eventual Big XII Champs and BCS Title runners-up for 342 yards and four touchdowns while putting up 39 points—15 more than the ‘Horns gave up in any other regular-season game. The first thing that stands out about the young man is his size. At 6’5” and 243 pounds he has elite size for an NFL signal caller. He is tall enough to see over the line of scrimmage, big enough that he is difficult to sack, and athletic enough to throw the ball while running and make defenders miss. Not just a physical specimen, Johnson is a true quarterback; he thinks, acts, moves, breathes and sees the game like a quarterback should. Despite his development and good grasp of the game for a collegian, Johnson is still very raw as a passer. Everything about his technique needs refinement at this point, from his throwing motion to his footwork. Few NFL quarterbacks are a threat to break off a 60-yard run and reel off a 60-yard pass…Johnson has a chance to be one of those guys. Johnson is talented and possesses excellent potential, but heading into the 2010 season he is nowhere near ready for the pros. In all likelihood he will need at least a year on the bench to work on his mechanics. If former NFL coach Mike Sherman can coach Johnson up in his senior year and the Texas native refines his throwing motion, Johnson will have a chance to sneak into round one.
