(1-7) Sedrick Ellis, DT, Southern Cal – Proved to be worthy of the 7th overall pick. Ellis reached 30 tackles with 4 sacks while constantly getting penetration against double teams. The former Trojan started 13 games missing three due to surgery for repairing a medial meniscus tear. Grade A

(2-40) Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana – Earned the trust of the Saints in training camp and starting his first five games before dislocating his wrist and being placed in the IR. Porter and rookie Sedrick Ellis share the same agent and are mentioned to be close friends since becoming teammates. The Saints can use a young tandem as such to bring a face to a faceless unit. Grade B –

(5-144) DeMario Pressley, DT, North Carolina –
Was hurt during training camp and placed on IR after injuring his right foot. Pressley is considered a project and streaky type player. He’ll have to show in ‘09’ that he is ready or could be let go. Grade Incomplete

(5-164) Carl Nicks, G/T, Nebraska -
Standing at 6-5 and over 340 in weight this rookie made his presence felt. Starting 13 of 16 games and while making his first start when Saints veteran Jamar Nesbit served a four game suspension. Nicks never looked back starting the rest of the year. Grade B+

(6-178) Tyler Mehlhaff, PK, Wisconsin –
Failed during training camp to beat out Martin Gramatica. Mehlhaff was called back during the season and lasted threes games before being cut once again. He should find service somewhere in 2009. Grade D

(7-237) Adrian Arrington, WR, Michigan –
Was impressing the Saints coaching staff during training camp before heading to the IR with a injured toe. A player to keep a eye in this pass happy offense in 2009. Grade Incomplete
