QB KEITH NULL, WEST TEXAS A&M, 6027, 222, 5.10E
Null brings the size and arm strength you look for in a possible late round developmental prospect. He finished his junior campaign with 4,134 yards and 41 touchdowns with a 67.4 completion percentage. Expect Null to earn a late round grade from a few teams heading into the 2008 campaign.
RB GEORGE BELL, CATAWBA, 5102, 210, 4.58
Bell, a former Virginia Tech transfer, showed why he was a former FBS player last year with 715 yards on 5.5 yards per carry and 18 touchdowns while splitting time. He earned 2nd team All-SAC honors as well. He will need to show he can catch the ball this year and prove his knee injuries are completely healed – some teams think he has two bad knees. He will carry a free agent grade into the season due to his injury concerns and lack of home run speed.
WR JARRETT BYERS, NE OKLAHOMA STATE, 5103, 182, 4.48
Byers received a medical redshirt for 2007 after playing in just two games and catching 14 passes for 106 yards. Before his injury he caught 43 passes for 896 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2006. The former Coffeyville CC transfer will certainly get a look as a free agent but probably won’t move up any higher than that due to red flags on his mental capability and injury concerns.
OLB/SS PIERRE BANKS, APPALACHIAN STATE, 5112, 210, 4.65
It is hard to believe that an Appalachian State prospect could fly under the radar, however, Banks is doing it. His performance at Michigan with 12 tackles, 2 for loss, one sack, and a fumble recovery seemed to go unnoticed by the media but is certain to gain attention of NFL scouts. His speed was shown as he harassed Chad Henne the entire game. Banks’ productive year with 108 tackles, 7 for loss, 3 fumble recoveries, and 2 forced fumbles helped him earn 1st team All-America honors by The Sports Network. He brings the ability to digest the NFL playbooks (shown by graduating already), great speed, and production that could earn him draft grades if he can run in the 4.5 and duplicate his Michigan performance at LSU.
CB DOMINIC SPINKS, DELTA STATE, 6004, 193, 4.54
Spinks could become a surprise prospect in 2008. He redshirted in 2007 after transferring from Murray State. With all the tools to be a solid prospect he just needs to get on the field. Those who have seen him workout say he has the potential to be as good as or better than last year’s All-American Monterio James. Spinks probably won’t be considered a prospect heading into the season but don’t be shocked if he is on the NFL radar after just a couple of games.
FS DRE’MAIL HARDIN, STILLMAN, 6005, 196, 4.51
Hardin, a former Mississippi State transfer, burst onto the scene in 2007 to earn All-America mention after finishing with 9 interceptions and 6 pass breakups. His size/speed combo intrigues scouts while being a former SEC player and showing that he can dominate at the small school level. Expect Hardin to earn late rounds grades or better with a solid senior season as long as he runs in the 4.5 range or better.
